Aaaaaaaaaaand I'd be thankful if the discussion ends there.Apothem wrote:Not like legality ever really meant much here to begin with when it ever comes to sprite rips.
(I won't throw an opinion either way: But I know that nobody else is going to change their minds, and yet another multi-page debate is not going to solve anything, nor is this a really good place for it.)

Err... I wasn't planning on starting a fight over morality, just stating the obvious fact that if someone is (like Gez suggested) opposed to illegally downloading a commercial game ROM, they're not going to be doing anything less illegal or questionable by downloading the individual resources from the same commercial game.

I know there are some folks about that would jump at the chance to, though.esselfortium wrote:Err... I wasn't planning on starting a fight over morality
Re: Doom 64 Sprite Rips UPDATED!
ok to break it up here, there was a full commercial TC of Doom64 waaay back in 2006/07 on the Doomsday engine, and that didnt get shut down, in fact, that was my first foray into doom 64, if anything it wanted me to play it on the original console more to see what was different, soooo really, someone ripping sprites from a game that was ALREADY RELEASED FOR FREE 6 YEARS ago is nothing. I doubt ID will come and snoop it out when clearly they have bigger fish to fry.

Alright. Enough, please keep further discussion to the sprite rips themselves only. If you must talk about the morality/legality issues, start a thread in off-topic, but be warned, it likely will not end well. (It didn't last time.)

...break what up? Literally no one said anything even remotely related to anyone shutting anything down, and there was no moral argument made anywhere in this thread.Ben2k9 wrote:ok to break it up here, there was a full commercial TC of Doom64 waaay back in 2006/07 on the Doomsday engine, and that didnt get shut down, in fact, that was my first foray into doom 64, if anything it wanted me to play it on the original console more to see what was different, soooo really, someone ripping sprites from a game that was ALREADY RELEASED FOR FREE 6 YEARS ago is nothing. Please read threads before attempting to post in them.

If this keeps going, I'll take down the sprites.

If what keeps going? People continuously pretending that an invisible argument somehow exists where there is clearly none?
Where are the Xaser emoticons when I need them?

Meh, I never really liked the D64 artwork and seeing the sprites in sheet form only makes it worse for me... especially the death animations look like crap IMHO. The sprites also appear to be way too dark to use in regular Doom(2)!

Hmmm, they are lacking in frame count compared to the PC ones, it seems. But that cyberdemon's face freaking melted off his skull. I wouldn't mind seeing that replicated in Brutal Doom.Vader wrote:especially the death animations look like crap IMHO.
