Re: Smooth Doom (NOW HAS A THEME SONG!)

I fucking LOVE this mod! It's great, it's like Perk's smooth animations mod on EVERYTHING! Great job so far, and I'm looking forward to more monster, weapon and death skins.

However, as some people might know, I very rarely come into a thread just to congratulate the mod :P I also have a pretty big complaint. This is soooo poorly optimized it hurts me. Using "kill monsters" on any level will slow it to a crawl, even with all the gore and blood particles off. Also, once you set blood and gore particles to on, there's no way to remove them, only to cause new ones not to spawn. Complex Doom for Zandronum also uses heavy resources, but it has a "vanilla mode" toggle that kills most of the heavy stuff and also removes the gibs/casings etc. already created. I suggest you look into that. Another thing would be the fully randomized (I presume) gore/blood etc. The blood is especially a big problem. Sure, it's nice to have random explosions of gore every time and not really some scripted boring thing where it's always the same, but it also kills performance like no tomorrow. I suggest reducing the randomness so that processing time is lower, and also adding a "no random" mode on where every particle follows a pre-determined way of falling so it tanks PC's less.

I will continue to use this mod as my default "load with vanilla/boom compatible mods" addon, and I look forward to more fixes and cool new stuff. This is already great, and I can see it being much better. Good luck!

(Me too, but I'm currently away from my computer for the next two weeks)

(Good news: the new chaingunner skin is really close to being done, and I think it looks way better than the one currently in the mod)

I really hope you add ketchup addon in Smooth Doom. I really think in Smooth Doom need more blood...
Also I noticed bug. Sparkles of Plasma. When you choose for player and monsters - you not see sparkles. When choose Only Player - you see sparkles.

I think specters need some gibs too (invisible gibs would be dope).

I also think really need gibs when you kill monsters with chainsaw. More massacre elements.

I've thought about (optional) extra animations for chainsaw kills, haven't found enough sprites that I like though.

Agreed. Having the enemies just fall over when they die has always felt pretty unsatisfying in my opinion when using the Chainsaw. I think allowing it to gib enemies (even if it was randomised) would help it to feel a lot more destructive, like how the SSG can gib enemies with close-range blasts.

Hey Gifty, I dunno if you're aware (there's 79 pages in this thread now!) but if one loads Smooth Doom and then Droplets 15 the options menu for Smooth Doom no longer appears.

Just thought I'd post in case you didn't know. :)

PS: Also, can't tell you how impressed I am with this mod. Love it!

Thank you! Yeah I noticed that too; it's because both mods define their own MENUDEF lump, so while they're technically compatible gameplay-wise, the Droplets menu overrides the Smooth Doom one. I'm looking for a workaround!

What updates do you have planned? Besides the D64 Plasma Rifle and BFG.

I think he might be working on a ZScript version.

Some monsters have no archvile-revive sprites. Can't remember which, but IIRC they were usually skinned zombies.
