Re: Topic for people who like MLP:FiM
Someone's got a very twisted view of why people like things.
Re: Topic for people who like MLP:FiM
As much as he goes on about sexual attraction to ponies, I tend to think it's projection.

I love the show, I love the ponies in the show, and I like looking at what people drew. Because honestly? Some of the things that these people draw is simply amazing.
Re: Topic for people who like MLP:FiM
Funny you mentioned that site, because it is packed with anime-based stuff. And there are "ponies-turned-into-anime-girls" right on the first page, right now. I honestly don't think it is just a coincidence...BlueFireZ88 wrote:Don't you just love Rule 34?
I also could cite the massive "I watch it for the plots" meme, in which some MLP fans openly admitted they like characters' (especially Celestia's) hindquarters (nudge, nudge, wink, wink).
I mean, what is so terrible about admitting that some guys think about sex nearly 24/7 and tend to sexualize stuff around them? Wasn't that a positively-viewed male stereotype only a dozen or so years ago?
Re: Topic for people who like MLP:FiM
Not sure where your guess got its education. The University of "Wild Random Stab in the Dark", presumably.Caleb13 wrote:So my guess is that guys who are "used to" anime girls can find MLP "acceptable" as well. I even named this phenomenon as "sumbliminally encoded porn inside MLP" a few thread pages back, though readers here didn't like that description very much... :-/
I don't really watch a lot of anime, but I'm certainly a fan of cartoons and cute things. Shows that are targeted to a younger demographic but also are enjoyable to a more mature audience are not easy to pull off, especially when your cartoon is tied into a toy line of plastic miniature technicolor ponies. (The fact that the MLP cartoons seem to have so clearly been a vehicle for pushing those annoying toys off the shelves definitely put me off at first.)
As for the porn thing... oh dear. Why would an animated show aimed chiefly at little girls (<- this is important to bear in mind) have, of all things, subliminal pornographic imagery? Just... bluh?! The appeal of the show to an older male audience (i.e. not just the "cloppers") so completely doesn't just stem from obsession with anime/porn/both. They check the "cartoony" and "cute" boxes, which is good enough for me.
I'll be honest, Caleb the Thirteenth - every post you've made in this thread has really and truly... baffled me. By all means carry on posting, but let it be known that I don't think I'll personally ever understand your train of thought.
Damn right. This girl makes me proud to have been a UK resident.Hellser wrote:I love the show, I love the ponies in the show, and I like looking at what people drew. Because honestly? Some of the things that these people draw is simply amazing.

Caleb13: Rule 34 the term, not the website.
It's flat out sad and disturbing that porn based on any children's show even exists.

Must... refrain from posting about sexoholics and how they need help....
EDIT: on topic though I'd like to mention how the multidimensional character box gets checked. Unless the plot calls for a single dimension of a character ("The REAL Pinkie pie would never be doing that"? Oh yeah? Well how distressed would you be if no one could tell you apart and every one of YOUR clones was having simple minded destructive fun and you weren't? This episode shows the stereotype of Pinkie and acknowledges she's a lot more than that) everyone has their patterns and acts on them on a higher level than "I'm doing my favorite thing! Teehee."

Nothing. The problem is when you generalize, taking a minority phenomenon and making it out to be a majority one. This is why I suspect an internal motivation behind all this relentless psychoanalysis of the show. "It's okay to have these feelings; it's not my fault, it's the show's fault."Caleb13 wrote:I mean, what is so terrible about admitting that some guys think about sex nearly 24/7 and tend to sexualize stuff around them?
Sorry, but the show didn't make you sexualize a cartoon. That's all you, bud. The sooner you drop your quest for personal justification at the expense of everyone else, the happier everyone will be, yourself included.
Disagree. He restarts this crap like every five pages. Caleb, just leave until you've sorted out your own confusions.Jimmy wrote:I'll be honest, Caleb the Thirteenth - every post you've made in this thread has really and truly... baffled me. Just gonna be straight-up, here: It's totally not cool to want to hump cartoon horses, because it's like, uh, it's like wanting to hump a horse. It's a cartoon, but, it's still a horse. S'all. I'm done now.

Re: Topic for people who like MLP:FiM
My original post above which I was going to post:
I never viewed MLP as being sexual -- in fact, it strides far away from it. That won't, however, stop people from drawing art of the show. Particularly Rule34 art. It's bound to happen, and even DooM has such pictures. It's your state of mind which eventually concludes the theme of the show or game. I view the show for its quirky humor, great animation.. and most importantly; the show did help me during a time where I was stranded in a bed for a whole month due to a cyst located in a very bad place which hindered me from walking.
I love the show, I love the ponies in the show, and I like looking at what people drew. Because honestly? Some of the things that these people draw is simply amazing. Sadly, this does eventually get into the much dreaded Rule34 section. Do I like it? That depends. But the issue is Caleb, you should not jump onto the bandwagon. The same bandwagon that claims that all bronies are sex-starved adult men who are looking at 'Anime-like Ponies' and getting off to them.
Just remember this; whatever show YOU watch.. whatever game you like, there's someone getting off to it.

Re: Topic for people who like MLP:FiM
Millions upon millions of guys "like" anime -> MLP looks awfully lot like anime -> some fraction (but still many in absolute numbers) of those guys subconsciously like MLP because of that similarity. Just like someone who likes jazz tends to like related musical styles. I really don't understand what you all find so offensive or weird or "improbable" about this simple observation (and rather obvious one at that). There is no bandwagon I'm trying to jump onto or psychoanalysis I'm trying to make. After all, I like the show, so if I were saying something like "omglulz all male MLP fans are anime-addicted virgin fags" it would mean I would be saying those bad things about myself too (and no sir, I wouldn't like that).
In this very thread, you all have no problem to dissect a MLP episode into tiny details and discuss them. This topic is no different to me, it's just another detail of the show and its fandom. If it offended you (though I don't see why it should, unless of course you actually are an anime-addicted virgin fag), I'm sorry. At any rate, I will take Trance's "advice" and leave it be.

I think what we have against this observation is that correlation doesn't mean causation. And tying it to sexualization was even worse. What nails it for me and what doesn't is being able to watch it without cringing. A lot of older Disney's work (TaleSpin, Rescue Rangers, Gargoyles) passes the simple "gut emotion" test, while "Strawberry Shortcake" does not. It has nothing to do with sex, hidden or not.
(also dear god the backpedalling.... just ugh. can you tell anti-intellectualism really grinds at me?)

Re: Topic for people who like MLP:FiM
If somebody has feelings of sexual attraction to anime characters or MLP characters, fine. Preferably they shouldn't bring it up in polite company, and it's probably a socially unhealthy thing to pursue, but it's their own business nonetheless.Caleb13 wrote:I really don't understand what you all find so offensive or weird or "improbable" about this simple observation (and rather obvious one at that). These people aren't the norm, and it offends me, belonging to the superset of "MLP fans" in general, to be lumped into the creepy subset via a generalization. Like I said, I don't care if you get off to ponies, just don't rationalize it by saying that the greater fandom does the same thing.
Good. Thank you.Caleb13 wrote:At any rate, I will take Trance's "advice" and leave it be.
Can we declare a moratorium on this subject now? Can everybody agree not to get into this crap anymore?
Re: Topic for people who like MLP:FiM
They may not be the norm to you, but the flood of them I encountered pretty much ruined any interest in ever checking out the show.Trance wrote:If somebody has feelings of sexual attraction to anime characters or MLP characters, fine. Re: Topic for people who like MLP:FiM
It is best to ignore that batch of people (as they ruin just about any fandom) if you want to check out the show another time.
