I agree with you, a competition between all of us submitting maps and weapons, maybe even monsters would be unfair with the purpose of the project. I guess the next time could be capped between 80 and 90, maybe 100 maps but that's a "what if" situation.NeuralStunner wrote:I could understand a cap of 1 submission per person, but any form of competition would befoul the entire point of the project.TerminusEst13 wrote:So in DUMP 4, expect to see a cap on submissions. Yeah, but the truth is that if we get even more people, not everyone's gonna fit inleodoom85 wrote:I agree with you, a competition between all of us submitting maps and weapons, maybe even monsters would be unfair with the purpose of the project. It probably wouldn't be a serious competition (also, 99 slots (MAP01 to MAP99) is a lot of maps), but the thing is trying to put together that many random maps in order from everyone is """"FUN"""", by which I mean not fun at all. I think Term and Yholl have been losing it, even when at a point where one would think there's not all that much 'it' left to lose.
Someone's gonna have to get a submission left out if DUMP 4 continues the trend of project size.

Maybe cap the submissions at 1* per person until we see how many people are in, then decide whether or not to increase it.
(*that's 1 map and 1 gun/mob/whateverelse, so people don't have to choose between them)

But in any case, it's good to see that many maps being made...I think the issue is more about setting deadlines that don't overrun so far - eg. if the deadline for this project had originally been set to August, we probably wouldn't be talking about this. (unless ofc ppl slack off with the fixes etc. because the deadline is still weeks away...even I've done that before

Maps can have any name at all, so 99 isn't the limit(also, 99 slots (MAP01 to MAP99) is a lot of maps)

I guess that the decisión will fall on Term when the time comes if DUMP 4 follows the same direction or not.
Re: DUMP Episode 3: BFG Edition [Test builds pg. 55/56]
perhaps in the future we could have a competitive mapping thing, where a small group of people decide whose maps were best, and make a wad out of those submitted maps... although i could easily see that causing some poor darlings getting hurt feelings... perhaps one could crowdsource the submissions to be voted upon (with the top 32 getting 'in' to the wad)... then again thats a whole different focus from the dump project. idk something to think about ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I think the best idea is to have only 1 map/weapon or whatever DUMP 4 Gimmick per person.

My thoughts were to maybe try and get a larger staff on board, and have it split into multiple parts. So you'd end up with something like DUMP4 Episode 1: Revenge of the Bean Burrito and DUMP4 Episode 2: The Curse of General Tso. It would involve multiple boss fights having to be made, but I would imagine it would reduce the burden on Terminus with him only having to deal with a fraction of the maps.

Ben Kalough presents DUMP 4: Episode 1: "It's DUMP as you truly imagined it!"
Jokes aside, started to go back to add finishing touches to my map yesterday, after putting that off for weeks, so here's hoping it'll be done by the end of the week, God willing.

And the fact that I've had all four of my wisdom teeth removed.TerminusEst13 wrote:To be completely honest, if one thing had to be pointed at as the "cause" of the delays, it's the sheer number of things. We have 120 entries this time, total--between 80 maps, 40 weapons, and more additions people are doing, that's more than DUMP 1 and DUMP 2 combined.
That is uh
significantly helping in the weapon department
Re: DUMP Episode 3: BFG Edition [Test builds pg. 55/56]
I'm just noobposting here but you could potentially have a competition with a generous deadline alongside a regular DUMP, maybe running on a tighter deadline. That way, you can only really blame yourself if you don't finish your submission for the "guaranteed" slot. BTW this is coming from someone who used the full deadline extension for DUMP3 so I'm not really a paragon of time management.

Completely remade and improved Crater, with a sparkling new (cooler) intro, many more interactions, secrets, all previous bugs fixed, and better detailing inbound.

Mercury Rain -- v7.
Changes:
- Multiplayer monsters added.
- More minor cosmetic tweaks to just the map.

Got my own update here!
I've gone through and implemented difficulties now, so please let me know what you think of it. I'm really unsure about my balance, so any pointers or advice would be supremely helpful. I'm reasonably certain I've unbroken everything that broke while setting up the lower difficulties, but also keep an eye out for things along those lines.
