The WIP Thread
Re: The WIP Thread
Ehm, just did a tool for making better boot images.

Re: The WIP Thread
while it's cool and all - it's probably not the greatest idea to modify iwad files.

it's a backup iwad just for testing that featureMikk- wrote:while it's cool and all - it's probably not the greatest idea to modify iwad files.
Re: The WIP Thread
Wait, does this make all the appropriate graphics for a startup? If so, do you plan on sharing the tool? It's certainly something I'd like to see. I know that Slade can process these graphics but I had a terrible job making it do what I wanted for my Gene-Tech mod; so much so that I didn't bother for Waterlab.
Re: The WIP Thread
-Almost, you're still limited to 16 colors, but not the ones that slade3 uses for making startup lump. (with the help of gimp you can make those pictures to look almost like a 256 color image).Enjay wrote:Wait, does this make all the appropriate graphics for a startup? -Yes I'll share (not right now because there're some memory errors) [and also open source].
For now if you want to know how the images are gonna look after converted, just open gimp, load any image at the size of 640x480, goto image options -> mode -> indexed, set the max color to 16 and play with color dithering... Later you can also edit with gimp the image so you can fix some wrong colors that appeared with the indexed convertion.

I am interested in this...
I do hope you plan to support the loading notch graphics as well.

Re: The WIP Thread
Anybody know how much a Doom pixel would stretch relative to the pixels themselves? I know it's 16:10 stretched to 4:3, but I want to know the width/height ratio of the pixels themselves. I'll do the math if I have to, but I figured I should ask, just in case.
(This is so I can see Doom sprites properly in Aseprite, by the way.)
EDIT: Looks to be 5:6. Unfortunately, after a little hacking, Aseprite doesn't display this mode correctly... Bummer.

Re: The WIP Thread
Working on Moonfall, trying to get a good lunar soil texture going, but I'm having some issues with it. Here's what I have so far:

Its photosourced from a NASA moon surface photo, but I think I got a bad selecting since its showing some pretty bad tiling artifact. I need to get a more even sample, I think.

Re: The WIP Thread
I was inspired by Doom Delta to do a hero pack, using the protagonists from my Doom books. Neat thing is the characters are numerically listed to match the narrative "episode" in which they appeared. Mostly. There's no Thy Flesh Consumed book yet.
Sarge: Pretty much Doomguy. He's the lead dude in the first book (and a supporting character in the third book).
Brody: A deimos security guard in book two. I was itching to make her playable on actual Doom maps (especially Shores, since that's the book she's featured in), and now she is! Starts with a shotgun.
Chief: Lead dude of the third book, a big, bad Cherokee captain in the marine corps. He gets a unique magnum revolver as his default gun.
Parker: Another protagonist from book three, a UAC scientist and medic. She starts each map berserked.
