Re: Widescreen HUDs for Doom II PWADs

Post by Nevander »

That sounds like something that would require SBARINFO and ACS, and would go really good with NCHUD which happens to be my personal favorite HUD to use. I don't know how it would fare with simple widescreen replacements but the idea is good nonetheless. Although I think showing all the bars at once even when not active might be cumbersome, rather show only the current powerup(s) in use and their bars.

Well, the thing is that several powerups may be active at the same time, and it must be possible to show all four of them at once. Also, there is limited space for the empty additional part of the widescreen statusbar, maybe an area of 50x32 pixels (or a bit wider). Dunno if that's enough.

You could also put two bars on the left and two on the right side for equal distribution. More height would be available then, yet it would ofc make more sense to keep everytthing together in one place instead of spreading it.

I just noticed there is no widescreen status bar for Heretic. Why is that? Is it because it does not count as a Doom PWAD?

There's a couple of widescreen status bar huds for Heretic here on the ZDoom Forums.

A suggestion for another addition to the bundle: a widescreen status bar for THT: Threnody.

Doesn't GZDoom already scale things up as an option?

It just makes the status bar bigger. Not exactly what I am looking for here.

Scaling up is well and good, but when the aspect ratio of the screen is wider, that produces unwanted blocks of filler-texture. Scaling up the status bar even more to fill those, only serves to constrict FOV.

At the beginning of next year, I will make a review of popular 2017 pwads which have altered the statusbar and are worth being added to this project (if they are not included already). If anybody is willing to help by providing an overview, feel free to go ahead.

I would do it myself, but alas I have no idea how to do it and I have the feeling this requires more than just MS Paint - at least, if I want the result to actually look good. :?

Can you make those for Shadow of the Wool Ball, because Rise of the Wool Ball has a Wide Status bar, and also for Doom Hack too.

Edit: there's is a "Shadow of the Wool Ball' wide status bar. Link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/q4k4fm8ogq7di ... e.wad?dl=0 But still need a DOOM Hack wide status bar.

Any possibility of widescreen statusbar for The Lost Episodes of Doom v2 PWAD by BlueFireZ88? I was trying to use the widescreen status featured here in this pack but it seems that this PWAD uses its own HUD but it's not in widescreen format.

This should be a standard doom feature and included in zd_extra.pk3
