There's nothing wrong with it, it's a good sprite, the problem is that there's a mix between obvious hand-drawn sprites and obvious photo-based guns, which makes the SSG and BFG in particular feel weird with the rest of the weapons.

The problem I have with its appearance in FreeDoom personally is the fact that it was enlarged with xlinear filtering and as a result it looks less clear than the other weapons. Anyway, @BadMojo that SSG looks pretty good, I did some minimal work to make it look okay in the Doom palette. Looks a little splotchy and I know it would require a lot of manual touchups but hopefully it's a good translation:

Right hand is really out of perspective. Its so tiny it looks like a hobbit hand. No way that hand could ever pull that guns trigger.

I never thought my db shotgun would gain any attention... Let alone be compared to eriance... Mind you that's the second time this has happened to me in the doom community now, but I'm fine with that :)

In any case though, your all welcome to do as you like with it. If anyone related to the freedom project feels this is worthy enough, then by all means use it.. Just stick my name in the fine print somewhere, and I'm happy :)

I think the gun there is larger than the guns in the game, so you should scale down the gun. Be sure to keep a copy of the original though, because you can make a hires version from that...

This, and the fact the reload animation just feels weird IMO, Really preferred even the old angled "engraved" shotgun used in the earlier builds.

Mosin re-scaled, removed right hand, changed (a bit) left hand position and added it's fingers on the other side.

you could do a bit more to make the metal feel more sprite-y, and the white stripe is ill fitting, but thats a great step forward
