you really should post this on ModDB, as there is alot of interest for brutal mods (having a page for brutal doom and blutal Half life and everything)

Hello,

I just registered here to say thanks for thid mod, I spent the last few days playing through Heretic and I'm currently in Episode 3. I always found Heretic to be a little bit slow in glaemplay but it had that great dark fantasy stmosphere Raven Software was known for. Now with Brutal Heretic I think the game is much more fun, with those chunky salsa sound effect when one of the pesky gargoyles gets killed ;) It's also a lot harder than I remember from the vanilla version but I guess that's the point of a brutal mod treatment. The Weredragons are extremely dangerous, often two quick hits from their quick-flying fireballs is enought to send my health counter into the negative :)
About the weapon behavior, I think it has already been mentioned that the Elven Wand is very useful and never becomes obsolete, it can even deal with stronger enemies with ease. The Crossbow is also nice, perhaps it could be a little bit stronger and slower firing; I remember being able to insta-kill gargoyles in vanilla Heretic, which was always great fun. The Dragonclaw, in my opinion, feels somewhat anemic; it fires very fast but the blasts seem to do very little damage. It's probably hard to balance it vs. the Wand because the Wand also fires faster now, but still a littel bit more damage would be nice without changing anything else. It's advantage over the Wand could be that it's hitscan. The other, stronger weapons are ok, I guess. Not much to say about them sicne I don't remember how they were in vanilla Heretic.

Hi, i have a fatal error when i launch the pk3, "34 errors while parsing DECORATE scripts". How can i fix this problem?
PD: Is amazing all the work what are you doing on this mod.
I'm sorry for my english, i speak spanish.

I don't know why it would give you an error. Try making sure you have the latest gzdoom version.

This mod had me thinking someone should add a monk class that uses Lo Wang's sprites and animations. Add the ability to throw most item sprites, or use them as weapons and you have a 3.5E elite Drunken Master class. That'd be awesome!

This is TL;DR level, but something tells me that ZScript forced GZDoom give a middle finger to the Brutal Heretic.

I don't think that's an error in which I can currently fix. If someone else knows how to do that, feel free to post here.

I wish he'd come back to this. Heretic and Hexen need more gameplay mods than Doom ever did.

Hi, i use to have the same problem as afrodemon 562 and nep_505 " 34 errors while parsing DECORATE scripts ",to avoid it do as following with gzdoom 1.9 :

You need the original Heretic or hexen .wad + GZdoom
Extract the Heretic.wad and the brutal heretic.pk3 + HR_HereticWidescreenv2.wad into your GZdoom folder.
Create a new brutal.txt file (in the gzdoom folder) and then rename it to brutal.bat then write inside the file this line :
gzdoom.exe BrutalHereticRPG_V1.pk3 HR_HereticWidescreenv2.wad (or if you downloaded hexen then it would be hexenblablabla.pk3).
Close and save the file then run it, it should work nicely.

Hey guys, so I've been trying to get Sergeant Mark IV to resume progress on this mod. I haven't been very motivated to get much more progress on this project done, so I've been trying to get the attention of the original author, but I can't seem to contact him at all. I really want this mod to stay alive and well. Does anyone know how I could contact him? I've tried messaging his youtube account and his doomworld account but he isn't replying to anything.

Last time I commented the Brutal Hexen vid and responded, he said that he will continue developing it in a certain future.

Use latest GZDoom for the full experience. Using GZDoom's 2.3.0 and later versions sure give a fatal error. Anyways, cool mod. I love that fighter demo!
