I finished E1M4. Surprisingly easy. Mock me all you want for hauling that Vulcanette around, it makes the initial influx of enemies quite easy to handle : P

Neat, good job so far!
Hauling the vulcanette is actually kind of amusing to watch. I vote to stand for your gear choices even if you have to keep tossing it around to manage the weight limit.

I added a check to that since the latest update... almost forgot to list it!The "mine" is a single plasma ball which is not moving, and I think I grenaded said caco, or shotgunned it up with a spray of hunter shells. The ball is 100% unmoving, just floating, and pops if i touch it.
I really can't see how the Liberator rounds are penetrating less than the buckshot, as it is explicitly much higher. Could be any number of things though, between ricochets, random direction changes or other things getting in the way - and the multiple projectiles give you a much higher chance that something still gets all the way through.
No new update this week in the absence of any truly game-breaking bugs - I'm trying something a bit experimental and given there's actually something at stake this week I'd rather that the latest version remain stable for a bit.

That check must not be working, because the save was the most recent build.
I hope your experimental stuff is shared with us later, at very least with a gif or youtube video or something.

E1M5 is done.
And with that said...
I HATE PHOBOS LABS WITH A FIERY BURNING PASSION.
IN FACT, THAT TRAP TO UNLOCK THE PATH TO THE EXIT IS THE REASON WHY E1M5 ISN'T HD-FRIENDLY.
Also, I saw the return of an age-old bug.....

herps / derps cannot be crushed it seems... derps kinda makes sense, but the herp should be vulnerable. By the way, I had an idea for a horrific malfunction for the herp when damaged : Instead of flat out breaking entirely, it autofires while rotating slowly to the left / right, potentially killing the player, reasoning being a lack of failsafes and the busted circuits making it go haywire, firing and spinning in slow circles, until out of ammo, picked up, or smashed up even harder.

Just downloaded HD and trying out everything. Fun times,
One noobie question: How do I zoom with my weapons? I already set hd_startzoomed to 1. Thanks.

Glad to see a new player mofo! HD has a LOT of controls to bind, and I would recommend going into the customize controls options to bind everything. (or just important stuff)
Zooming is with the zoom key, but only applies to rifles, thunderbuster, rocket launcher, and the vulcanette. KEEP in mind, the zoom key DOES NOT make guns any more accurate or easy to handle, it JUST makes it easier to see what you are aiming at. Managing accuracy is better done by holding still, and bracing on a ledge / wall. Also keep in mind movements influence the trajectory, so firing a rifle when running to the right makes the rifle round go to the right more as well, as it inheriets your momentum. This isn't very obvious with rifles or firearms, but you can notice with rifles at longer ranges. At around 40 yards, you want to aim slightly to the left when moving to the right, so the momentum doesnt make the round go too far past it.
If you haven't already, look at slydrs boot camp videos. They are pretty outdated, but are still very good guides to how to play without getting rekt too hard. Also keep in mind, hitting the jump key and a directional button lets you do a small jump, which uses a lot of stamina, but can let you dodge into cover, or get out of the way of projectiles a bit faster. Just be careful, jumps use a lot of stamina. also, make sure to fire square in the chest for targets, shots that glance off do less damage than direct hits, 2 pistol rounds dead on can kill, where it would take 4 or 5 glancing pot shots to drop a target, so try to make the shots dead on to fight more effectively.
hey vae....you considered putting the lost soul attacks to act like babuins?... Then again, they are already a pain in the ass since they blow up doing gaurenteed blast damage in melee range...I think maybe they should have a death which blows up a bit slower when damaged by light blows (fists, pistols, small rifle bursts) just so theres a way to avoid the guaranteed 15 or so damage from the bite, and then getting burned, because I'm finding lost souls are a bitch this way. Infact, I tried e2m8 on grimdark....the lost souls are honestly WORSE than the cyber demon as they are aggressive as attack dogs hopped up on coke or something.

My three tips for new players:
- 1. Bind a key to the 'Quick draw pistol' bind. It's worth it. The pistol is seriously worth using in this mod.
2. Don't be afraid to spend a little extra ZM66 ammo. It's not terribly special and dropping that mag with only 15 bullets isn't that bad now that we can use recycled mags.
3. There are two places you hold shotgun ammo. Pockets and saddles. Fully load a shotgun, then hit reload again to fill the saddles.

Hey slydr, what about a coop 2-3 man 6 life go on "go 2 it"? Even though im deeply regretting my decision of the bet already (and am not looking to next week for doing it) I would love to see that with the ton of arachotrons and chaingunners and archviles oh my! (assuming zdoom doesn't break from all the smoke)

Re: Hideous Destructor [last update dated September 12, 2016
I've thought about the lost souls acting like babuins, but somehow it doesn't feel right - both in gameplay because the grappling is sort of the pinky-monsters' "thing" and there's something oddly snakelike about the lost souls that makes them look more like they should be striking their targets.
I almost made them inject a venom that sets the target on fire, but that didn't make any physical sense.
SD, can you describe the bugs for me? I don't know which part of the E1M5 vid to look at and the second vid seems to be the wrong URL.
