If it's not ZDoom, it goes here.

InsanityBringer wrote:With regards to japanese I don't believe zdoom can do unicode at the moment, which would make it impossible to write japanese without creating your own encoding (and you'd be stuck solely with kana since you only have 255(? not certain in the case of ZD) characters). Even then, I can't imagine at 8x8 a doom-ish kana font would look all that good, though I think you could do a simple font that looks okay
Some of the Japanese Doomers tried their hand at this a while back. These are the only public screenshots I can find so far, and the poster described them as "JPN-カナ LANGUAGE FAILS" so presumably something was a little whacky here (I guess non-translated text using the new font?)

The original, PC-88 Japanese translations of Doom uses the higher-resolution system font poorly tinted red and overlaid over the screen using the machine's unique resolution-mixing abilities. Something similar - a vector font implementation ala ZDaemon? - might come in useful for these more complicated alphabets.

This concludes my seriousposting about a language I don't know how to read.

I'd love to see it, but they should make TONS of them if that happens, though.

I've been wanting japanese language support in OA3 too but this would mean tearing apart mod compatibility since the old QVMs might freak out to strings it can't decode

so I might go with the minimal english + localized voice route

That font looks surprisingly readable. As for the "language fails", my limited knowledge isn't helping here, but the first one at least looks pretty correct (Inpo), though perhaps the second one could be better? (Ahotebairu). the dakuten taking up an entire character cell looks really weird though.

while we're on the subject of Japanese, the Japanese Community Project comes with a HUD that replaces the HUD elements and numbers with kanji and japanese numerals.

Because they were limited and didn't needed to touch the other fonts. So my opinion is, kanji is really fitting and understandable in doom font size.

Everything seems to have it out for my god damned feet this month. First I sprain my right ankle while walking home from lunch, and now I drop a huge ass can of baked beans on my left big toe. Excruciating pain and the ibuprofen has not taken effect yet.

Damn, that sucks. I'm a very big and clumsy sort of guy, so I've often bashed my feet/toes in ways similar to what you describe. Get well soon.

My brother came back to his Windows XP computer, to finally beat Need for Speed Underground 2. So... I should play it again if it works on Windows 10..
