Some of the Japanese Doomers tried their hand at this a while back. These are the only public screenshots I can find so far, and the poster described them as "JPN-カナ LANGUAGE FAILS" so presumably something was a little whacky here (I guess non-translated text using the new font?)InsanityBringer wrote:With regards to japanese I don't believe zdoom can do unicode at the moment, which would make it impossible to write japanese without creating your own encoding (and you'd be stuck solely with kana since you only have 255(? not certain in the case of ZD) characters). Even then, I can't imagine at 8x8 a doom-ish kana font would look all that good, though I think you could do a simple font that looks okay

The original, PC-88 Japanese translations of Doom uses the higher-resolution system font poorly tinted red and overlaid over the screen using the machine's unique resolution-mixing abilities. Something similar - a vector font implementation ala ZDaemon? - might come in useful for these more complicated alphabets.

This concludes my seriousposting about a language I don't know how to read.
