weird things that happen in Doom

Post by adamaH_oriH »

have you had any weird moments in doom?

Here are a few of mine: (using My Hiro Hamada Doom WIP Mod)

1 - So I am confronted by a Macra (Spider Mastermind). The Macra is a huge crab, Ok? so the Macra follows me, and i just stood in SHOCK then laughed at what he did: The Freakin Macra Follows me, and SUCCESSFULLY follows me through that TINY HALLWAY in the background.

2 - My little bro is playing my mod, He fires the rocket launcher trying to hit a Dalek (Imp) and misses and hits the wall directly underneath the dalek. what happened to the dalek when the rocket had mpact with the wall had me laughing for 5 minutes: the dalek HOPS IN THE AIR.

3 - I shoot down a dalek on the high up on a building from afar in the original Doom II map, Downtown. when the dalek died, his corpse JUMPED OFF THE EDGE AND FELL ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE GROUND.

4 - on the same level, earlier, I killed a dalek (Imp) in a window. I have it to where one of his deaths involves a custommissle, which is his head, fly off of his body and land somewhere. His head flys STRAIGHT OUT OF THE WINDOW.

5 - So, I have the Infernal Spider in as
Spoiler:
. I made it to where
Spoiler:
So, theres monsters EVERYWHERE. He spawns for the first timee, and I'm thinking: Oooh! He's here! if he gets into infighting, he will obliterate all of the other monsters, and... Oh, He'll kill me as well.

He dies THIRTY SECONDS AFTER HE SPAWNS.

1 - Sprite size is irrelevant. You could have a sprite that's as big as your whole map and still have it fit through the hallway because the actor's radius is still the same. The actor's size must have been changed so that it could fit through a hall that thin. If only the graphics are new, then I've no clue how.

2 - Same thing as 1 just about, the height must be set too low or radius too small and the rocket hitbox didn't collide with the enemy hitbox.

3 - That's a compatibility setting in ZDoom. Something like "Monsters can cross dropoffs" and "Monsters get stuck on dropoffs."

4 - Projectiles tend to follow edges of geometry if they are the right distance from an edge. You can see this if you fire a BFG over a small set of steps, the projectile will move up in small increments to keep it above the geometry. Might be something to do with sprite clipping. Otherwise they will hit and enter the crash or death state.

5 - Either his health is too low and is killed by the other enemies very quickly or (like the Spider Mastermind) just dies quickly because of the ratio of attacks and damage amounts. A group of Barons can kill a Mastermind quicker than she can kill them (even though they are weaker and smaller, so you think).

I'm probably wrong about some of this but it's my guesses.

Im not stating problems. I made a fourm for people to tell their weirdest or funniest experiences in Doom.

These aren't funny. I could give a Spider Mastermind one health and then post the fact that it died instantly as a funny point. This is stuff we've seen already anyway, and the comedy if any comes from seeing it, not having it explained.

Some days, I wish people could be a little more compassionate.
