Must Play .wads

Post by SolidSnake122591 »

What are some of your guy's favorite wads? I just finished Valiant and going through Pirate DOOM an wondering what I should do next. Could be easy, could be a hard .wad. If you enjoyed it I'd like to play it.

CC1-CC4
Alien Vendetta
Icarus Alien Vanguard and it's 2015 maps are worth to try
Memento Mori II
Requiem
Hellbound
Whitemare 2 (can be pretty hard and confusing at times)

In addition to the aforementioned...

wow.wad is 2goood u shud play it rite now!!1!

Hellcore (2.0) is one of my favorites; The maps are large and well-detailed, lots of challenging (but fair) enemy encounters. Later maps can get a bit into slaughtermap territory*, but it never really gets any worse than Alien Vendetta, or Plutonia's Go2It; at any rate, the difficulty curve increases smoothly and doesn't devolve into "BFG spam vs 5000 archviles". Only real downside is that it's pretty short; only about 11 maps long IIRC.
(*in co-op, anyway. the last few maps do have some pretty vicious ambushes even in SP though)

Hadephobia's worth a look, too.

Going Down is... interesting. The maps are small and hectic, so it's rather challenging, but it's certainly a lot of fun.

Wolfen is a must play just because of the additional tricks and things the different classes get to do, and it's worth taking apart why Mouse chose what she did.

UAC Ultra. It's a fairly short mapset, but almost flawless in execution.

Well, I like atmospheric TCs, so I'd say Barista.wad.
Liberation of Earth is awesome too. The city of the Damned is a .pk3, not a .wad, but fits here.

__

Also, for a more "doomish" gameplay: NeoDoom, UAC Ultra and SinCity3. Nerve.wad is not a mod, but...
For the more new, "newstuff", releases, I'd sugest Final NeoDoom, Legacy of Suffering, Lucifer's Rising and all the Temple of LizardMan series.

"Planisphere 2" - a recreation of all of New York City (before 2001), it's massive, it slows you down, but it's a technological achievement!

Also "Turbocharged Arcade" - it's silly, but amusing for the most part.
