Unless this functionality is reinstated, I don't see any serious modding aside from mapping and maybe some very small behavioral changes happening.
I remember reading that with regards to doom 3 bfg edition (which also abandons having external game libraries) that this was done since consoles don't support dynamic linking in this manner very well so it was removed (apparently it also eases their own dev some), and I am guessing that it was done for doom 4 for similar reasons.

Still kind of a shame, for sure, but I do kind of wonder how many Doom 4 mods would have risen given the aformentioned issues with trying to use idtech5 and 6's toolkits at a more casual level. Who knows, maybe given the apparent success of Doom 4 so far and the name behind it some people would try to work past them.
To make it even more annoying, it would've been incredibly simple to put that behavior behind some #ifdefs to keep it a PC-only feature :v

I have gotten every achievement in DOOM on the Xbox One. A Toe in Madness is simply the hardest one to get, though it only took around 10 deaths.

Ultra-Nightmare does not fuck around.

I got every achievement i could in one single-player run of the game, using mission select of course.
I am kind of disappointed when it comes to the ultra-nightmare difficulty though. It's nothing more than an insane damage multiplier for the enemies. So it's more a game of don't get hit.
I don't know if others found it fine but i just expected the difficulty to be more creative.

My plan is to do a 'no upgrade' run (ie: no upgrades for my weapons or suit) on Ultra Violence ... I think that might be a more fun way to up the difficulty in a subsequent run.

You, my friend, are correct. I expected enemies to react more quickly, move faster, and hell, even respawn if you didn't kill them all fast enough.

did you know that you can fire a combat shotty and then immediately swap to a doubleshotty
did you know that if you then swap back to a combat shotty then you can deal even more damage
did you know that you can then swap back to the ssg AGAIN and not have to reload it??

Let's hope this encourages developers to make their FPSes unique like Duke3D and ROTT again.

Anyone else having trouble with Crashes To Desktop? First 22 hours or so in game with only one crash ... now they're fairly frequent. Getting through a level without one is a coin toss.

I'm in the middle of a scrap and it's as if I hit [alt] + [f4].

Yeah, that happens occasionally on the later levels for whatever reason. No way around it other than just redoing whatever progress you lost.

and since this is the d44m thread then here's one to start off posting ur online stat's

There's a reason "CTD" is a core part of the Bethesda community vocabulary... Too bad the usual "save often" advice isn't really applicable here. :(

Bethesda is only the publisher, they really have nothing to do with the game, only id Software (and maybe ZeniMax) have.

Pretty sure Neural is well aware of that and he was simply cracking a joke about how the main Beth games (Elder Scrolls, Fallout etc) are so crash-heavy that it has become a "curse" of sorts and that every child company under them will suffer the same fate... ;)

i know the joke's already been explained here, but if we're talking Bethesda, the new Wolfenstein games ran flawlessly on my systems and never crashed on me once. but Bethesda's own games have always been prone to bugs and crashes, IIRC.

i'll stop being ignorant of the joke now. :P
