Gaming skills.
Re: Gaming skills.
What must be eight or so years ago, back when I was a kid, I completely mastered the good old N flash game - to the point where I could see how a level would be solved simply by knowing the mechanics so well.
edit: I also beat I Wanna Be The Guy around this time period, hehe. Good times.
I then proceeded to slowly destroy DoomRL, though that stopped rather abruptly and I never got super good at it.
Then a lot later, I just accidentally became one of the best players of crawl, oops. Even going as far as getting a funky 3-rune turncount speedrun off (not an amazing one but whatever) and snatching the browser-played realtime record for a while. (Did I mention that I can go fast?)
And currently I'm destroying the good old XCOM1 (using OpenXcom) on the highest difficulty possible on my first try. Oops. (Edit: Beaten on the first try*)
So, uh, yeah - I'm kind of good at videogames?
Getting good at competitive FPS games is likely a thing of the past for me though (I had a nice time back in '08-'10 in Skulltag) due to me being so apathetic and them requiring you to play so much to polish your sk33lz.

I'm actually pretty awful at fighting games. I only ever fight the CPU, anyway, and never at a higher difficulty than medium (on Capcom games, never higher than the lowest setting possible).X-CrAzYkOoL-X wrote:Hey Weasel, I remember you mentioning King of Fighters before, 2002 to be specific.

Would you ever/Are you interested enough to practice to a competitive skill level in fighters?

Re: Gaming skills.
I'm pretty awful at any given type of game. HOWEVER, I can pick up game mechanics really easily. You know the saying "easy to learn, hard to master?" It's sort of like that.
I tend to be better at games with very little customization. I HATE Path of Exile's skill tree, for instance. However, I love Hexen's simple, preset classes.
I can also pick up on application interfaces really quickly too. It's probably why I find programming so rewarding.

I can beat all three routes of Star Fox without dying.
I can beat Thunder Force IV on Medium mode without dying.
I can 1-cred Espgaluda II Black Label.
Seeing a pattern here?

I wouldn't say I'm the best really (I suck at online multiplayer), but I can progress pretty good in singleplayer.

Re: Gaming skills.
yes, clearly you suck at video games. :PPPscalliano wrote:Seeing a pattern here?
i'm okay at video-games i guess. i've noticed that my reflexes seems to have shot down remarkably under the recent years, and i suck really bad at most platformers and games that require a lot of quick reactions and whatnot. like Doom. so i guess i'm not really at those kinds of video-games, but i find myself being better at something requiring more strategy and slow going to beat them, like JRPGs and strategy-games. i'm by no means awful at games, but i kind of like taking it slower i suppose.
Re: Gaming skills.
I die a lot, but I can keep trying for hours until I win.
So I suck but at least I get things done.

I'm pretty good as long as I don't have to aim a gun with a controller. I was in the top StarCraft 2 online league when I played it. Probably suck now at it now, though!

Re: Gaming skills.
In the FPS genre, I can finish most games in medium difficulty. I can play either on PC or console, I think the controller of the PS3 is ok for FPS (I have played Bioshock, Borderlands, Rage, Resistance 3), maybe not at a competitive level but who cares. The only bad thing in a PS3 controller is the sprint command, when it can't be changed from L3.
In fighting games I'm somethat good as well, but miles lower from the pros and those with perfect timing. Some game modes are too hard for me, like score attack from Persona 4 Arena, but maybe I didn't put enough time on those.
