I have been playing through arcade mode this whole time, and I did not know that the first boss lets you live after you are defeated once in story mode until now. You don't know how many times I have died in arcade mode to her.

i don't think you can kill her in story mode at all. you're supposed to lose, even though an agile player can avoid most of her projectiles and get in quite a few hits. unless there's an extra sequence in which you inflict enough damage she backs off anyway.

Re: Nocturne in Yellow (& Knuckles)
Correct, you can't kill her in story mode at all, she has Plot Invulnerability.
If we had more time, I probably would have included an alternate path where if you can beat her, she tries to chase you to a different part of the castle. Actually, that would be an interesting premise for an expansion, wouldn't it? If all of the bosses had paths based upon if you beat them or didn't beat them.
Also if we had more testing time we probably would have noticed in short order that SHE HAS WAY TOO MUCH HP FOR THE FIRST ARCADE MODE BOSS HURRRRRRRRRRR :V

Some how I can beat the third boss in arcade mode, but not in story mode.
Yeah, and if you could lower the first bosses health, that would be great.

kind of interesting but ultimately just confusing that she's doable in one mode but not the other. then again, this is probably going to be expanded on eventually, anyway, so i can take a few setbacks like this for the time being, really.
Re: Nocturne in Yellow (& Knuckles)
I have some questions that have been on my mind for a while about Nocturne In Yellow, and its licensing specifically.
What's the policy on:
-Reusing assets from NiY for our own projects?
-Creating mods that run on top of NiY?
-Creating modified versions of NiY?
-Redistributing NiY in unmodified form?
I looked through the documentation, but I couldn't find any info on any of this.

Re: Nocturne in Yellow (& Knuckles)
We didn't decide on a license at the time primarily because of a lack of time, so there's no document. We ended up having the discussion eventually, though, when Raymoohawk asked about wanting to tweak some assets for use in Freedoom.XCVG wrote:I have some questions that have been on my mind for a while about Nocturne In Yellow, and its licensing specifically.

Most of the time, all of the original code and sounds/music I make for projects adheres to the WTFPL general use public license. The big question is usually artistic assets, but in this case both Bloax and Mike12 have said use of stuff is fine as well, since it's not their best work and it'd be a shame to not have it used anywhere else.
In short, yes, please go right ahead. We allow free use of resources and assets (though obviously you're gonna have to edit the FUCK out of them to make them look natural in Doom), making add-ons or adjustments to the original mod for whatever purpose, distributing the game modded or unmodded, and more.
My one request is that if you re-use stuff, please check the credits and make sure that you're attributing things to the correct people.
Well, my other request would be that you don't sell this stuff. But that's kind of obvious "don't be a douche" territory.
Re: Nocturne in Yellow (& Knuckles)
I just now found the book names hidden in the bookshelf textures in NiY, they're great. Who did them? Also, is anyone able to tell me what the vertical cream book and the two blue books in STNBKSH2.png say? I can't figure them out.
Re: Nocturne in Yellow (& Knuckles)
The vertical cream book is "AWE SATHANA" because I was scribbling random things and that one just had to be there.Turret49 wrote:I just now found the book names hidden in the bookshelf textures in NiY, they're great. The two blue books are "2 beat teh gaym" at the top and "u have 2 git Gud" at the bottom.
Probably should've written a tiny bit clearer, since it's completely impossible to decipher the blue ones, but it's impressive that people have figured some of the more fucked up ones out.
