I have one, too. (mild NSFW ahead)DoomRater wrote:Today I found sgtShivers tumblr

Why did I not know about these things? I've been checking the out of date blogspot for too long now. And to think a friend who wants me to consider moving on toward some engine I could make money from is the one who pointed me to finding these tumblrs.

I still remember something I read on SA that maybe he met Kojima at a bar before he started working on Other M.Viscra Maelstrom wrote:which is strange, because he was the director for fucking Super Metroid. which is the best Metroid game ever, in my opinion. and Fusion wasn't terrible either. so i don't know what happened in Other M.

I think that's probably the fault of the control scheme, unfortunately. What are your thoughts on the Metroid Prime games, in this regard?Viscra Maelstrom wrote:on the gameplay part, it just doesn't feel like a Metroid game. power-up shenanigans aside, all the combat is basically you running into a horde of enemy, mashing the attack button and you auto-lock and kill everything around you. no aiming skills required at all, just move around and shoot shit
For the record, I only challenged you to say more because I don't like when people say "bad gameplay" without really backing it up with reasons. I agree with you on Other M--it was really crap--but I've heard Binary Domain described as "bad gameplay," and it turned out surprisingly good. I think a lot of people end up scared away from games they would enjoy because people say "bad gameplay" and things like that.

i like Metroid Prime, but i can see why people don't. i personally enjoy the gameplay, and felt it was a logical turn at making Metroid in full-roaming 3D. though some people might dislike that you have to lock onto enemies, the lack of strafing unless you're locked on, and the camera auto-centering by default (i really hate auto-centering camera in third-person games, but it didn't really bother or hinder me much in this game.)Ghastly_dragon wrote:I think that's probably the fault of the control scheme, unfortunately. the first Prime game is probably the best, with each game getting progressively worse, putting it bluntly. MP2 and 3 aren't bad games, but they introduce elements that are more frustrating to deal with, culminating with the slippery controls of Corruption.
i feel the first MP game is the best balanced. it's not too hard, not too easy, and it's generally enjoyable to play. it's the best laid-out, all the bosses are generally fun to fight, and is an overall pleasant experience. i don't have many complaints about this one, honestly.
MP2 Gamecube is unforgivingly hard in some places, but it's weirdly balanced out. the hardest boss, Boost Guardian, is just a giant health-drainer for you, while later bosses aren't nearly as frustrating (with the exception of the final boss, which is hard as shit.) i really dig the Luminoth and Ings though. it takes a really original spin at the series, not pitting you against space pirates and metroids, and i feel that Aether is a really fresh feeling place in the series. the music is some of the best as well. but the difficulty of the GC version can be a bit frustrating, and it's not balanced out that well.
MP3 is a fun game, but it's the weakest of the series. some of the bosses are cool, some are hard, and the environments are decent and it feels Metroid-y enough. what bogs the game down is the control, since it's not very precise and it hurts my wrist holding the wii-mote against the TV all the time. the huge variety of Space Pirates is cool, and makes them a much more omnipresent threat than before. the Phazon mechanic is cool as shit, but it's nothing too special gameplay-wise, and most of the Phazon upgrades are garbage. the music is okay, but some of the orchestral themes don't fit well with the synthy sounds and stuff. the hunter bosses are neat, but there's no emotion to killing them, since you don't get emotionally invested in them at all, making them feel a bit like throwback characters (unless they were in Hunters, the only Metroid game i haven't played aside from Pinball.)
i could go much more in-depth about it, but i just wanted to say a little about how i like Metroid Prime. as a whole, the games are fun to play, the music is good, relatively bug-free and the environments are gorgeously detailed. i can see why the gameplay might turn off people though.

Yeah, personally, I think if they took the ammo system out of 2 and reduced the damage of a few of the bosses (Boost Guardian...), I think it could easily have been the best in the series because of the setting.Viscra Maelstrom wrote:the first Prime game is probably the best, with each game getting progressively worse, putting it bluntly. 3.... 3 just sacrificed so much to make the controls work.

Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
so i just found out that mediafire cannot replace, skip or ignore the same named files anymore. although their name is absolutely same and correct, the screen won't show up and skip it anyways.
it worked before, so what's up with that? is this only happening to me?
EDIT: hope you guys realized my tumblr blog is still alive!

Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
I don't quite understand why people get excited about finding my "main" tumblr, considering I primarily use it for reblogs. I do run two others, though:
Really Cool Cockpits is one of those "aesthetic" blogs, wherein I post and/or reblog photos and screenshots of cockpits and dashboards from various vehicles.
Weasel's Writing, on the other hand, is my totally-unnoticed writing blog, where I occasionally have spurts of activity and then give up because nobody even clicks "Like" on my stuff anymore.

I also tried doing other stuff then RD, but through the lack of other people's interest and my own time, I gave up on it.wildweasel wrote: Weasel's Writing, on the other hand, is my totally-unnoticed writing blog, where I occasionally have spurts of activity and then give up because nobody even clicks "Like" on my stuff anymore.

Can someone explain me why do people make tumblrs? Never had one, and the ones I've seen just look like blogs with pictures to me.
