It wasn't supposed to sound that snidely. It just always thought it was kinda funny how imgur is literally treated like a masterrace of imagehosters here. Not saying that it sucks, but I didn't know there was ads on the one I used. Maybe because I have an account there, and that's why I never get ads.

it's a useful site to upload images to and share easily with the options of thumbnails, and doesn't bombard you with ads or force you to register before you're allowed to actually do anything with it. i think it's fair to say that such qualities is what makes the site being used so much around here.

So why am I porting a nearly 20yo DOOM source port to VS2015 and modern Windows (this is running on 10)?

Well, I needed to start with a clean straight Windows/DirectX port of Vanilla Doom; no dehacked, no sprites-in-a-pwad, no MBF/BOOM extensions, no SDL or other libraries, clean straight Windows and WinDoom, as amended by Dean Wiley, fitted the bill. This is purer than Chocolate Doom - but it won't stay that way for long :P

It was quite a job and I need to update the DirectX version it works with. The MUS2MIDI code was totally borked, I had to use that in the public DOOM3 BFG source which has obviously been very well ported to modern platforms. Need to do something about screenshots - they work, but the format is so old that even Paint.Net can't open them! In fact, FastStone Image Viewer was the only thing on my computer than could open it:

My intent is to write a .NET port of DOOM. There was one back in 2006 but Satan only knows where that guy who wrote it is now, let alone if he even has the source. So I will clean up and refactor the code in this until it is in perfect condition and then use that as a basis.

This is nothing serious, just a bit of fun for when I have the odd couple of spare hours :)

Irfanview handles PCX files just fine.

Ah, it's mostly jdredalert's work. All I did was change the hand, make the top gold, and add a nuke logo to the handle.
