Yeah for Monster you absolutely should not spoil yourself. It is a mystery thriller story with complex characters, extended flash backs and huge plot twists.

It is about a surgeon who chooses to save the life of a young boy rather than a politician and suffers for it, some time later some of the people who had burned him end up dead in a series bizarre murders, the young boy disappears from the hospital and the police suspect the surgeon but have no evidence. The story proper picks up nine years later as the entire mystery begins to unfold, anything more than this is spoiling the story.

All this talk of Space Dandy and yet I can't bring myself to watch season two because I know that it's over...of the little anime I watch, this is definitely a gem without a doubt.

Been meaning to start JoJo's adventure sometime. A bud warned me about what it entails and I'm fully aware, it looks great. Plus apparently the series at some point has the song roundabout in it.

What I can recommend however is Kaiji. It's definitely a tension-based anime with lots of narrative, but it has this really strong sense of comradery throughout. And zawa.

EDIT: damn, voice to text really screwed the pooch on this one.

So I rewatched the Steins;Gate movie with my girlfriend today, since she hadn't seen it. It turns out that the "Nae scene" is actually briefly shown in the movie, I just happened to completely forget that fact.

More or less, I suppose, although slightly less nowadays. I'm still pretty big into Gundam, although I didn't fully get into the fandom until 2008 since I started off buying a few gundam figures and gashopon every once in a while before then. I'm mostly the Universal Century related series, but I did enjoy Gundam 00 and Gundam Build Fighters and that one precursor to that series. I do like building the model kits and collect those little Gundam Converge figures.

Outside of that though, I've enjoyed watching Akira, Paranoia Agent, Paprika, Ghost in the Shell, Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Code Geass, Attack on Titan, Parasyte the Maxim, Doraemon and Crayon Shinchan. Doraemon and Crayon Shinchan (and I suppose Anpanman as well) do have a special place in my heart since my grandmother and uncle who lives in Japan used to send video tapes of those shows' episodes recorded on to them when I was little.

Isn't K-On!! basically moe/idol anime #9001? That's what I remember.

Goes to watch Steins;Gate on Crunchyroll
They've removed it.
Well...I guess I'll have to watch it the old fashioned way then.

This year I've become addicted to anime shorts
- I can't understand what my husband is saying (S1 + S2)
- Comical Psychomatic Medicine
- Teekyu (S1 - S5)

Last anime I recall even finishing was: Muv Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse.
Anyone see that or play the games for that matter? I'm looking for a good mecha.

I like mangas more, because I think it's the original "thing" (a lot of anime adaptations change things, and very few add real worthy content, like Asgard saga in Saint Seiya). I'm currently watching:

- Saint Seiya: Soul of Gold
- Ninku

Some of my favourites animes are: Cobra, Gankutsuou and Yu Yu Hakusho.

Madoka might be my new favorite overall. The artwork is gorgeously stylish, and the story has some great twists and surprises. I've recently been rewatching it, and the plot structure makes certain things work even better the second time around. I went into Madoka having heard it described as "grimdark magical girl show" and not expecting much, but it exceeded my expectations in every way.

Nichijou is the best anime comedy I've seen. It pulls off calm subtlety and surrealism both perfectly. It's a shame it didn't have much success in Japan, and an even bigger shame that Bandai is sitting on the US license without doing a US release of it. I don't usually find anime "comedy" to be any good, but Nichijou pretty much knocks it out of the park for me.

Cowboy Bebop, FLCL, and Evangelion (the original and EoE, not the remakes) are my original favorites. Of all the anime I watched in the early 2000s, they're the three that have stuck with me the most and held up best to rewatches.

Nichijou is a definite cult classic here, I read some of the manga I found the pacing to be slow but the anime is probably better.
Is the original series much better then the films? I like the manga of NGE but the films not so much.

The new Evangelion films take the story in a pretty different direction, so they're not really a replacement for the show. The original series' reputation is mostly hinged on its later episodes, though, and some of it has admittedly aged pretty badly so YMMV. It's very mid-90s. The new movies are flashier and I guess more immediately accessible to a new audience, but IMO the writing and characterization are a lot worse, which is a less-than-good tradeoff for prettier animation.

I haven't read the Nichijou manga, but I've been meaning to get around to it!

I have always considered Evangelion to be incomprehensible, impenetrable, pretentious, and awful. Having watched all the episodes and the movie as well as Rebuild, I stand by my statement.
