Spriting at work because I can go ten minutes without calls and my employer is kind enough to not care. :P

Actaully, what are the reasons to use circle things, other than "confuse the user", "they look different" and "that's the default setting"?

Slightly customizing Xaser's psyguy face to fall more in line with how I'm characterizing Doomvengers' Freerunner. Wise-cracking, charming, vaguely insufferable to his comrades. I'm going to darken his skin slightly via Photoshop later as well.

The gun's angle is off and doesn't look accurate. I tweaked a similar version of this so its perspective is a little more accurate.

Well as some of you know I'm new to this whole modding scene so I've spent a couple of days starting to learn the ropes. I made video I made showing what I've done so far, If I do end up finishing a mod I'd aim to have it out before Doom 4 comes out, so I'm in no hurry either way.http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x30cgpi

Alrighty, Freerunner's mug is done.

Also those Female Player sprites I had worked on a while back. They're done. Should be uploaded today.

I've wondered the same thing. The fact that actors are square is very important to mapping. Monsters may be unable to pass through diagonal corridors that "look wide enough" if you're not taking corners into account. Then there's the occasional IWad map (E.G. Heretic E1M2) that demonstrates what happens when an item's corner overlaps a sector that later moves...

I was recently considering making the suggestion for GZDB to default to square display. (Or, as a more extreme measure, make it a map config setting. Just in case an engine comes along some day that could use it?)

They'll look exactly as they did before, except there are more of them :P I have no idea why no one else has embarked on the exact same project previously considering how simple it is.

Presumably, among the 5 or so other people that want non-sexualized character sprites like this, none of them had the patience and/or ability.

At one point I was working on a slimmed-down, lady-shaped variant of Corvus. (This was ages ago.) I was making an effort not to exaggerate too much. By now I'd have to redo 'em though. (They still weren't that great.)

Ha, that sounds neat. Given that he's so heavily cloaked it wouldn't be too bad to do, yeah.

Now I just need some brave soul to de-Frisetta some Hexen and Heretic hands. That's pretty beyond me.

Sometimes a slightly "sexualized" design is necessary for gameplay visibility purposes, however that doesn't mean a microbikini or maebari is the most practical use for gameplay, no not at all. That would be very stupid, dumb, not to mention perverted. A blob of flesh with popping pixels of clothing is not optimal, then again neither is a solid color of a bodysuit.

Capcom fighting games have many nice examples of what i'm talking about, particularly Street Fighter Alpha and Darkstalkers concepts and their design evolutions.

Also remember that even Doomguy himself is chubbified on his sprites to be visible, with an arguably sexualized bare midriff to help differentiate from the back.

There's a pretty big difference between "sexualized" and "exaggerated for the sake of clarity" and everyone seems to think there is only one.
The sorceress model you would see at this date in lei's avatar above is indeed what you would call sexualized, but something like Image is certainly not.

Both having clearly defined !!TITTAY'S!! but you would hardly be able to identify what the fuck this tiny image is supposed to be without a hint like that.
