Modding the engine to make it possible to write to ReShade's config file through ACS. That way color grading, bloom, Depth of field, god rays and whatnot should become directly controllable.
So. In the other thread, some miraculous cola-based magic happened.
I then thought: What about a mod where Doomguy is a beverage enthusiast, who strives to collect and try out all drinks and their different effects? Monsters steal drinks, and attack you with them. They, of course, drop their loot upon death. Drinks you pick technically act as weapons, but rather than causing damage to a target, they give you an effect, varying from one drink to another, and intensifying with quantity. Basically, bottled/canned powerups. Your only actual weapon are your trusty fists and legs, unless some divine cola you potentially drank states otherwise, of course.
Here goes the idea details:
Spoiler:
This is an enemy sprite test.
It's a six-pack carrying imp, who probably throws colas like a mindless idiot.
Of course, getting hit by a glass bottle hurts in real life, so I guess they're a menace. Plus they're wasting your precious beverages.
Here are some first person examples for some drinks. Bottles only so far, cans incoming tho.
Spoiler:
Here are some bottle variant examples.
They all give you different effects, good, bad or pointless, though the effect may vary if combined with others or amplified by excessive consumption of the same thing or, God help you, both. Some have a duration, some are permanent for a single level. The amount of times you have to consume a specific beverage to get to it's full effect is different for each.
For example: Coca-Cola equals a berserk pack, and the effect can get to x3 when consumed too much. It is limited to melee only. Cola Time slows down everything (even projectiles) except you by 50%. Consuming futher CT slows down time more and more unil time stops. REDBonk makes you 25% resistant to damage. The max overuse effect is much like the actual TF2 Bonk, making you invulnerable for the duration of the effect, with a fancy trail. BLUBonk is different, instead making you jump higher. Overdose makes you jump real high, and makes you run 25% faster. Crit-a-Cola makes you deal mini-crits (35% extra damage), and full crits (300% damage) at max, both of 'em with fancy effects for the target hit and the weapon. Unlike Coca-Cola, none of the damage bonuses granted by the Crit-a-Cola are restricted to melee, and can be stacked with Coca-Cola for an extra-ridiculous melee damage. Pepsi makes you freeze things around you in a limited range. When abused it deals a slight damage, and can fully freeze enemies (to the point of being shatter-able in a hit). It gives you a mist around you which also shows the range it has. It also may occasionally leave ice spikes behind which can insta-freeze whoever touches it. Sprite makes you regenerate health to 100%. Overuse makes you regenerate faster and up to 200%. 7Up is a very rare variant of Sprite, which regenerates you far, far slower but goes up to 700% health. Overdose makes you regenerate faster. RedFaygo makes you get high. It is literally pointless and just flashes colors like a rave party. Absolutely miraculous. Overdose makes monsters do weird stuff and projectiles to go crazy, though. Also blasts music. PurpleFaygo is an extra extra rare variant. It has all of the above, plus effects like 50% time slowdown, x2 speed and jump height, among other miraculous crap, chosen entirely at random, and changing at random intervals. It's like a box of chocolates, you never know what you gonna get. Fanta makes you immune to lava. Overdose makes you burn crap around you, setting enemies (and barrels) on fire and leaving a flame trail which also deals damage. Nuka-Cola makes you immune to nukage and general slime. Overdose turns you into a literal radiation bomb, and once it goes off it kills everything around you, sans you. Rainbow Dash makes you 50% faster. Overdose makes you 250% faster, plus it also allows you to fly at the price of having an extra gay rainbow trail. Dr. Pepper makes you steal health from things close to you. Like a reverse regeneration, health vampirism. It also gives you a fine red mist around you, marking the range. Overdose increases speed and range. Mountain Dew makes you punch and kick (and in general perform any combos) much faster. Overuse gives you extra moves you can perform, to fullfil your potential inner Bruce Lee. The effect is permanent effect for a level.
Spoiler:
And this one makes you go Super Saiyan. Not even joking here.
They are so extra super hyper ultra mega rare, that a single extra use makes you go one SSJ level higher, up to SSJ3 because it's too OP beyond that.
It gives you everything you would expect from a DBZ SSJ, ranging from a fancy aura, going through superfast melee combos, extra melee moves and combos (much like the Mtn Dew), lock-on teleportation, flight and everyone's favorite: shooting huge lasers from your hands. It also makes your power level health shoot up to ridiculous numbers.
It's the ultimate drink, the holy grail of colas, the omega beverage.
Other drinks are in progress. Also cans, because people request cans. From Chaos Soda to Whoopass, people request cans.
Note that all those miracles you just read is just a mere idea, and nothing has been made past the sprites you've seen here.
I'd like to do a Mad Max inspired thingie. I know there's a TC in development right now called Ashes, but I'd want to make something a bit more leaning towards The Road Warrior. Take some inspiration from Action Doom 2; lots of melee weapons. Ammo is rare and guns are hard hitting. Collect guzzoline, water, and food. Become a road warrior searching for a righteous cause.
