"Two CoD-Gen Idiots Get Lost in the Original Doom"

If it's not ZDoom, it goes here.

It's down on the d-pad. And yes it does tell you this in the options, which you can access any time.

So there's no excuse.

In my defence, that was 18 years of muscle memory your mod was competing with there. :P

I'm on a tablet right now, so:

You get the idea.

Anyway, the guy on the left kind of reminds me of my very first playthrough of Doom on the 32X (yeah, I know), although I at least had the decency to play on HMP. The guy on the right, on the other hand, ergh ...

Is it wrong the I found it jarring when E1M3 ended and went straight to E1M4?

"Now I have a machine gun. Ho. Ho. Ho."

EDIT: Actually, I take it back. I died on E1M6, I never got lost. Seriously, this is painful.

Are those mortals ready to die? When they're five minutes in one will scream that they've played this game too long. Playing Doom engine games is basically winnowing of people who get / don't get lost in a maze and those who succeed have passed the crucible. :D

Meh, they couldn't even complete Catacomb 3-D, they'd get lost in the level "Approach" immediately :D

I want to watch them do one dungeon crawl in Daggerfall, without Recall.
If that gets me lost I shudder to think how they'll do.

Reminds me of when I tried playing DOOM for the first time. I started on Ultra Violence, got my ass whooped cause I had no idea what I was doing, went to HMP and had a blast.

This is, however, rather painful to watch.

I honestly would've not expected better from CoD players like those two.
If you're used to one game you're going to feel awkward playing another.
But seriously, they don't even look at the controls guide. Why?!
Other than that, it makes me happy they tried Doom! :)

Now... in this video... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YvKFzrb_72E
I also couldn't help but lose myself when they thought the eye switch from E3M1 was a vagina.
I facepalmed so hard at that statement, that my hand not only went through my head and out the back of it, but it circumnavigated the world and hit me back in the face again.

"You can't melee with your gun raised? I thought I was playing a real game for a second. JK"
I find it a little bit funny that they mocked the CoD userbase here.

And yet, even after playing through the game a lot, they don't figure out how to run to get the shotgun.

I gotta make a joke wad that features nothing but this now. :P
Medicris wrote:You know, there's a lot of people on that thread saying "you're just all grandpas" and "the level design is just bad and you only know where to go if you already know all the maps".
It just shocks me that a plethora of people scoff at Doom, and just dismiss it as a game with poor level design, and being absolutely complex.
They don't even play through it all the way, let alone much at all. Plus... automaps...

I've had pretentious "modern gamers" tell me this though: "This game looks like it's from the 80's or something, why are you playing it?"
...

Maybe I will get bashed for this but even as a Doom player I still don't see much differences between it and Call of Duty in comparison to, let's say, Deus Ex 1 (just in case : it's one of my favorite games if not the only one). I mean, AI is not outstanding, levels are pretty straightforward in their gameplay ( secrets to find, shooting and rail shooting for COD, shooting and switch/key hunting for Doom ), story is secondary... I think you get my point.

Really I don't always understand why modern FPS are looked with such disdain given the fact they are not so different from Doom, IMHO.

For me it's not the games that bother me. It's the userbase (and cod's userbase's terribleness is highly exaggerated) and the marketing.

I don't believe people think all modern FPS games are bad (a plethora of them are great!), but I think CoD & Doom play very very differently.
If you're going to say CoD is the same as Doom, we should be comparing CoD & Doom, not Doom & Deus Ex.

Besides that, I don't think you deserve to get bashed for your post.
Like what you like, play what you play.

Edit:
I'd also like to point out, Deus Ex is from 2000, so I wouldn't use it as an example of a modern FPS either.
The latest CoD games are very recent and have no excuse for their low quality. They don't even compare to Doom.

I don't mind them much. It's frustrating at first to see them wander around the same room 30 times, but they start to get good at about part 4 and even seem to develop a liking for the game. Maybe even a sort of love/hate respect kind of thing or some shit.

It's also kind of nice to see that there are too many fucking barons on coop Ultraviolence EP2, what the fuck were they thinking? Who put so many fucking doormonsters in every goddamn room?
