FPS's that need to be remade/revived

If it's not ZDoom, it goes here.

FPS's that need to be remade/revived

Post by Jeimuzu73 »

It's the 2010s and a lot of old-school FPS franchises are being revived and remade. Wolfenstein, Rise of The Triad, Shadow Warrior and the upcoming Doom...in some ways they've even outclassed the contemporary modern/futuristic tactical shooters of this time.

So, besides those, what other old-school FPS franchises do you want to see revived?
  • Blake Stone
  • Heretic, Hexen & Strife
  • Redneck Rampage
  • System Shock
  • Blood
  • The Descent
  • Outlaws
  • Marathon

I would love to see a true remake of Powerslave/Exhumed, much like what Croteam did with Serious Sam HD : little to no alterations regarding gameplay, but highly-revamped graphics.

Not really an ...FPS- but it was an on-rails shooter...Actually you COULD play in first person when you unlocked the option to...

..that game is REZ. C:

Witchaven. So much wasted potential that could have been something great with the right polish.

Bad Toys 3D, Nitemare 3D, CyClones, and William Shatner's Tekwar. They're all grossly underrated, though Bad Toys 3D has somewhat gained a cult status among the Brazilians.

EDIT: Also, any game made with Pie in the Sky GCS.

Realms of the Haunting would be rad, especially if they keep the cheesy 90s style for fmvs.

I'd like to see ZPC redone...with less eye-searing map design, but keeping the Aidan Hughes art style.

Blake Stone would do superbly well if it was given the same treatement as Wolfenstein:TNO.

The game that did modern warfare before Modern Warfare did it.

^^^

A Blood remake would be nothing short of amazing...provided it's handled properly. But that's pretty much a pipe dream...

OMG THIS! I love BLACK. It was my favorite modern-ish shooter on Xbox Original. The entire aesthetic of it was incredible, and the guns looked like they were years ahead of current technology at the time. And the silver weapons and M16A2... I'm gone. I've beaten that game I don't even know how many times. At least four times on all difficulties including Black Ops mode. I liked how there was a stats page to track stuff like headshots and more. I even came up with a made-up achievement list for it if something like this would ever happen, you can read them here.

I also second Blood. I would also love to see Shogo: MAD with a proper remake. Doom 64 would be awesome if it was officially brought to PC, there's a thread on Doomworld about this.

I'd love to see a BLACK remake/relaunch, it'd kick ass.

regarding old shooters i'd say Blood or Blake Stone, they don't get enough love.

Redneck Rampage
YES

also this with deathmatch/race/push modes, hardware acceleration, Doom-like player ac/deceleration... but almost identical visuals and no up/down looking.

Chex Quest where the baddies are actually a threat (and possibly renamed to avoid racist undertones)

QUAKE, that is to say, Quake complete with the original industrial-gothic-fantasy aesthetic that no game ever has managed to pull off properly before or since. (I would very much welcome a link to something proving me wrong, by the way.)

The world also needs more procedurally generated emo-exploratory stuff like Dear Esther, but that's not really a remake/revival I want so much as the creation of a new genre.
