Getting 64-bit Fluidsynth to work?

Post by Flynn Taggart »

I've downloaded the 64-bit version of Fluidsynth from the Zdoom wiki for Gzdoom but I can't seem to get it to load properly with the latest Gzdoom build, saying it could not load fluidsynth.dll or libfluidsynth.dll even though I have it clearly in my directory under one of the two aforementioned filenames. This is probably something easily fixable I'm overlooking, again. I'm running this under Windows 8.1 64-bit.

Are you also using the 64-bit version of GZDoom? Just checking, this is one of the questions that'll be asked.

Apparently it seems I am not. I've been using the builds supplied here http://devbuilds.drdteam.org/gzdoom/. I guess I was unaware of where to get a 64-bit build so if someone could set me in the right direction I would welcome it.

Wrong port, actually. Only ZDoom is tested with them. Need I point out the irony of you asking that on the ZDoom forums? :P

GZDoom doesn't come with 64bit builds. But that decision is entirely of the devbuild maintainers, the engine works fine. But be aware that this really provides no advantage. With hardware rendering you are very unlikely to hit the CPU memory barrier before filling up the video RAM.

I don't have 64-bit builds made since it didn't compile at the time that I enabled 64-bit builds for most projects (solved shortly after by a pull request I believe). Secondly it didn't seem like you had any interest in there being a 64-bit build since it would be worse for the user than a 32-bit build so I never bothered to enable it. If you would like them enabled, I can certainly do so.

All I can say that on my setup the 32bit build runs better. That's mostly driver related, the NVidia driver produces considerably more overhead in 64 bit. No idea why.
