I Need Help In Creating Doom WAD's - HELP

Post by SploJa . Mark »

Lo all..

I need help in creating my 1st Doom WAD. ive got the basic stuff of creating monsters, and making a basic level, but I'm not sure about how you actually play it. I ent got a single clue about how to use all the parameter stuff  Ive used other game editors such as Tomb Raider and Max Payne, but DB seems a lot more complicated :?

Please reply with help or a good easy tutorial or e-mail me at

To play a wad, there are three methods:

1: The "drag n' drop" way:
Self explanatory. Drag and drop your wad file onto the ZDoom exe.

2: The "command line" way:
Go into the DOS prompt and use the command line: zdoom -file yourwad.wad

3: The "frontend" way:
Download a ZDoom launcher from the downloads page... and then it should be fairly self-explanatory from there on.

Wow, it's almost like emailing a company and getting back a form letter completely unrelated to the question you asked. Way to go, Giest!

Let's try the asking approach:

What exactly is it you need help with?
Do you understand the basics of sectors, linedefs, vertices and things?
What do you mean with parameter stuff? (command-line parameter, thing parameter etc.)

Please be more specific.

But he asked to create levels, not play them. Ergo, HotWax was right. Man, that felt weird saying that.

He seems to be asking for both.

Wait... DoomBuilder more compilcated than a real 3d game editor? ROFL!

Ok, what you need to do, is hit F5 in DooMbuilder. Hit the "Testing" tab. In the spot that says "Engine", hit the "Browse" button. Find your zdoom.exe and hit ok. Then hit the ok button to close the options. Then make sure your level is ready and is the opened file. Hit the green triangle play button (like on a VCR).

You tell me what he needs help with. To say the truth, we just need to ask him to be more specific, because he appears to be saying two different things.
