Game Maker FPS ported to Doom

Post by DrPyspy »

Image

This is a port of the FPS tutorial example for Game Maker 7. I was inspired to port it because its use of Doom assets, including the Cacodemon and the Super Shotgun's sprites. Working on this has helped me learn aspects of Doom modding that I have not practiced before, like SBARINFO and ACS scripting.

----------

Goal

Unlike most Doom maps, where you look for the exit, you must defeat all the monsters in the map to complete this one.

----------

Rogues Gallery

"Monster"

Image

A creature that can be killed with one shot. Despite being weak, this monster's bite can drain your health quickly.

"Gun"

Image

Fires a single pellet. Doesn't run on ammo, but is unable to penetrate monsters.

"Barrel"

Image

You can shoot it, but it doesn't hurt anybody.

"Plant"

Image

This plant may seem harmless, but it's actually wanted in 49 states for jaywalking.

----------

Includes:
  • Ported textures
  • Custom DECORATE actors
  • Remade HUD

GZDoom was used during development, but it should be compatible with ZDoom. Please let me know if there are any bugs present or if you have any suggestions.

Hmm, nice work. It's been a while since I worked on Game Maker, as all I'm doing now is using its image editor to make sprites for Doom mods. Not to mention there are replicas of Doom engines on Game Maker. Ironic, eh?

this is hilarious, i love it. if there was a function to replicate the wolfenstein 3d pacman ghost style attacks (i'm sure it can be done with a melee attack function call every frame) to create a horrible cacophony of OW! sounds it would be the icing on the cake for sure.

Spoiler:

On a serious note, I remember playing this fps Gamemaker thing and, while it's fairly spot on, there are some flaws with it. In the original, the Cacodemon don't make see/death sounds and the doors slide to the side instead of shooting up, which you could accomplish with polyobjects or an animated texture. =S

I updated the mod to include a few new features to help make it closer to the original.
  • Doors now open sideways instead of vertically
  • Monsters no longer make any noises
  • Fog has been added
  • Player now expresses pain more often

well, talking about lowtax and shmorky who plays lame or less-effort game maker fps games, i hope no one is going to make the remake version of the caves of hell for doom.

or you are going to pay for that(if you know what i mean).

Anyone remember the even older example of FPS from Gamemaker? I think I distinctly remember it being Doom based but it was more of an outside environment. Unless I'm mistaken, the final boss was some kind of UFO.

Yep, that's the one. As far as I know, that's the oldest 3D first person shooter to ever make it on gamemaker, prior to the fps tutorial.
