It's from Game Grumps. Vexler isn't really playable at the moment, and I haven't recorded his weapon pickup sounds so he has the secret quit message instead.

Any thoughts of moving (or adding) the poison effect from a shotgun shell type to the crossbow? I'd find it much more tactically useful that way. Additionally, trying to change shotgun shells in the middle of combat is often cumbersome (and frequently hazardous to my health) for me. Ever considered using inventory items to be able to change/select shells?

Do you mean creating clouds exactly the way it does except as a bolt, or poisoning the monsters it hits, or some other variation? Probably won't be moved entirely but another type of crossbow bolt would be possible, even if it does something similar; Marty will have to weigh in on it too. There's also another type of bolt that's gonna be in soon (though it might not be available to the Melody character, though I suppose that could get put under a cvar) which will basically act like a holoduke but for whatever monster it hits (unless it hits a wall, in which case it acts like a temporary regular holoduke.)

Yeah, we originally wanted to limit the number of keys the player has to bind, but I'll add in one for each shell type you can optionally bind. I should be able to get to it this weekend sometime when I redo the shell changing.

A bolt that emits the poison gas like the shells upon impact (and sticking).

If I was going to do, I'd have it switch to the shotgun (if needed), then load the selected shells (if needed).

My thoughts are just that though, thoughts. I'm not asking or suggesting you make these additions unless you feel they're something you'd want to include. I'll probably get around to making tweaks on my end anyhow for how I want to use TSP.

I didn't want the crossbow and the future bow n' arrow weapon to have a bunch of different arrow types like the shotgun for the sake of simplicity, but it might end up this way anyway. As for a poison arrow, I'm not too sure. I wouldn't want to make it a direct copy of the effect, maybe short, poison shockwave that affects enemies in a smaller area? Since it's the mod's current and only stealth weapon, thematically it does fit. I don't see this happening for this upcoming update but I'll think on it!

The original idea was for them to work like this, inventory items that you select to load in new shells. But seeing as that was almost a year ago, I forgot why we changed it to the current behavior. That being said, I don't recommend switching shells mid-combat! As it is indeed a health hazard, like you said! I usually survey the situation and then switch accordingly. I would consider this a center point of the shotgun's tactics, but I understand everybody plays differently.

Pretty much the philosophy so far has been that for things that can be implemented behind cvars and won't affect existing mechanics unless the user directs them to (like the tsp_zmelee, tsp_shellpool, tsp_toaster, tsp_beamstyle, tsp_beaminf, tsp_fullmags, tsp_forcethrowmags, tsp_usemags, etc. cvars) go in unless they would take a huge amount of work to implement or cause issues later down the line. So you can expect the directed shell switching to be in relatively soon.

Like Marty said, feel free to post them here or in #tsp (irc channel on irc.zandronum.com) or wherever. If they fit the above criteria (don't break other things, can be placed behind cvars) and you're alright with sharing them they'll probably get in to the mod proper so others that want the same things you want can have them too.

Marty and I have been messing about on Skype discussing alot of things related to The Space Pirate mainly the small-time addon I'm working on for it which would originally have brought 3 new weapons and one new non canon character, Non canon that is, until Marty said one thing to me: "He could be canon of you wanted him to be."

So now while my friend is still working on the rest of his rotations and myself on his weapons as well as his Bio I can at least post this preview of his player sprite.

I wanted to comment on this, firstly I'm glad you're interested in TSP and making a character add-on! To clarify, I wasn't planning on integrating him into the official mod, TSP has had pretty much a set cast from day one and I don't plan on changing that. That being said, add-ons are always welcome, and I'm sure everyone would be interested in more characters outside of the set four!
