WTF a recent Windows update made fonts scale dirtily

I'm pretty sure it was a recent Windows update. The font in Steam and also the Youtube player in my browser now scales really dirtily. [edit]Actually fonts look like dog shite in both my browsers, IE and Chrome[/edit] It looks horrible. Any ideas how to fix this?

As you can see in the following images, these all look like complete ass.

ClearType settings? (Open control panel, type ClearType in the search box).

ClearType was off before I captured and uploaded the pics in the OP. The pictures were taken after CT was turned on (and after a restart). I noticed that the pixel edges are anti-aliased but that still doesn't fix the crappy pixel scaling (look at that FRANKIES HOOOOUSE text. And the dots in the colon for :-D don't even have the same size!).

I also went into the Windows performance settings, Adjust visual effects and chose "Adjust for best appearance" - still no different after a restart.

Pop over to chrome://flags/ and toggle Disable DirectWrite.

Sadly that fixed nothing. :( I doubt that it would have anyway... this seems to be a system-wide issue (happens on Steam and IE too).

This happened to me once on YouTube. I closed my browser and cleared my history, and it hasn't came back since. Haven't done Windows Update for three months.

I saw this in the latest updates of http://tweakguides.com/. I don't know which version of Windows you have, but perhaps it may help.

Microsoft appears to have released a newer version of another Update which was originally released a few days ago, but which can cause font rendering issues on Windows Vista. The new version may resolve this font problem on Vista, but if it doesn't, you can fix the fonts by uninstalling the update. Go to Windows Control Panel>Programs and Features>View installed updates, then enter KB3013455 in the Search box at the top right and uninstall the result. Note that uninstalling this update leaves your system exposed to a security vulnerability which can be readily exploited.

Same thing happened to me last night, though I thought I broke something after I ran CCleaner that caused the horrible font rendering.

Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one who happen to still use Vista at home.

Oh yes I forgot to mention that I am still on Vista x64 (puke all you want haha). I'll look at that update Xander thanks!
