Re: 20 years from now?
I seem to recall my first version of ZDoom was 1.22, downloaded from (of all places) FilePlanet. It took me a bit to figure out why it wouldn't start, until I made the admittedly-obvious decision to try extracting it directly into my DOS Doom 2 folder.

And that didn't put you off of it forever?Enjay wrote:it crashed when I got to the end of the first map that I played.

Re: 20 years from now?
This was during the Win9x era. Stuff crashing was the norm. I don't think I made it through one all nighter of Zdeamon .9 on ME without it crashing.
Re: 20 years from now?
Man oh man, the memories! I downloaded ZDoom when I was like 16 or 17 or something like that and I found it when I got frustrated with Doom Legacy. ZDoom was the bomb; Quake 2-like particles, console, transparency, mouselook... the ability to play in 1024 x 768 (!!! for some reason Legacy just won't work when I switch resolutions). Then I found Notgod and I tried to make my first map with ZETH and it was crashing ZDoom horribly. :D Enjay saved the day when he told me that I have to build nodes first before my map would even run! :D
ZDoom projects like NJ's train, Kurt Kesler's WAD and Tommy Fatal's Half-Life-like WAD (I forgot the name) completely blew my mind back in the day. It made me really want to learn how to mod. Here I am today!

Re: 20 years from now?
It should have. I mean, it was a pretty repeatable crash. So I went back to Legacy and BOOM for a while but I kept an eye on ZDoom because there were a number of things about it that I liked. As I recall, you fixed the crash pretty quickly anyway and then there was no looking back.randi wrote:And that didn't put you off of it forever?

I also get very nostalgic for the old days on the notgod forum.

I often wonder how many of the old mappers are still visiting here.

Indeed, my bad.Kappes Buur wrote:phorum![]()
I *think* this is the last archive that The Wayback Machine has for the notgod phorum before the ZDoom section was deleted.

I forgot that I used my real name on the phorum.

Heh, I was just checking that out. Never visited the old phorums myself. I think I joined here just about a year after everyone moved over.

Really? 98SE was one of the most stable Windows versions I ever used.DaMan wrote:This was during the Win9x era. Stuff crashing was the norm.

Before there was Phorum, there was Discus. Anybody else remember that?Kappes Buur wrote:phorum
Re: 20 years from now?
Maybe, but I do remember the last time that you asked.

I *think* I do, but I wasn't an active contributor then. I think I became more involved with the forums, and actually started posting when Zdoom was at version 1.17c (maybe 1.14, but I think 1.17c) although I'm pretty sure the first version I DLd and tried to use was 1.11. How would the dates of "Discuss" vs "Phorum" relate to whatever was the current version of Zdoom at the time?randy wrote:Who here remembers when the ZDoom forums were running off of Discus?

I still remember with little fondness when we "upgraded" my mother's 98SE machine to XP after Firefox stopped supporting it (in the sense that it wouldn't even let you browse).NeuralStunner wrote:Really? 98SE was one of the most stable Windows versions I ever used.DaMan wrote:This was during the Win9x era. The problems never stopped.

Re: 20 years from now?
For me I've always wanted to come up with some new inventions 20 years from now. I did came up with an cool idea of an making a donut pan its just like a cupcake pan but it had donut shaped patterns on this was 5 years ago but at that time nobody wanted to help me do this invention and I stopped and that was a big mistake because you know why?

When I saw this it just broke me into.
It just goes to show you how cool it was to see my idea on a shelf but somebody had the same idea & beat me to it.
What about you? Did you have any cool idea's or inventions that you wanted to make?
