[Textures] Animated monitors & switches

Post by Reactor »

It took me more than 3 months, but I'm finally done with 26 animated monitors - a letter for each monitor. These are perfect for military base or tech outpost themed levels, each of them has smooth and long animation, sorta like Doom 3 monitors. Some of them can even be used as switches. I changed the type of monitor after every, let's say, fourth animation to make them less repetative. Monitors may differ in size, but all of them are divisable by 8. Each monitor type has an offline and a broken image as well.
As for the switches, about 4-5 months of suffering went into them, but now, they are all ready for the cookin'! There are 37 animated switches alltogether, this time, I've really outdone meself! Let's hope these efforts were not for nowt.

The rest of them monitors is pretty similar. Also every monitor has a pure static animation.

Now I'm workin' on a few animated radars, might add them to the archive.

Sure thing,ye :) I'm still working on more animated switches, about 10 of them, some of them may be Doom 3-style. The completed ones are not keycard-oriented so I'll make some of that kind too.

You may like to see how your monitor looks like into a project, Reactor. :D

Take a look at my last update Project ZD3K (rebuilding it) [update: 29-10-2014]

Your credit has been added.

Thank you :) I was curious anyways since I never actually tried them so far...it'll still be a year until we get to the juicy part (the level building) of the project.

By the way, 7 monitors of yours are done, 3 more to go :)

The work is done. X-DOOM wanted me to create 10 animated monitors which involve or are about Doom/Doom 2 monsters. It was not easy, as I had no clear monster animations, but eventually I managed to put together decent monitors with various Doom monsters. Here is the archive:

I never played FreeDoom before, since I have the original Doom/Doom2/Final Doom (yes, back from 1995!), but in case you supply me with some images and perhaps renderings, I can make some of course :)

They are cool looking monitors but if raymoohawk's intention is to use them in FreeDoom (I don't know if it is), Reactor, can you give assurances that absolutely nothing about them is based on anything other than your own original work? Even if they are screen grabs from an existing game, or based on textures from another game (even if they have been heavily modified) they would not be appropriate for inclusion in FreeDoom.

Yes. Sgt. Shivers is the "witness" for this, as I just had a talk wit' him and told him how I created these animations. Most of them are actually monster renderings, sketches and stuff, so nothing is really inside from the actual game.

Does that include the actual monitor frame too? Personally, I'm not bothered and would happily use the textures myself but if any part of it is based on something from a source such as a commercial game, then it wouldn't be suitable for inclusion in FreeDoom.

Yes, the monitor frame, too. The first one is actually was a microwave oven... :D
You'll also notice that sometimes even the monitor frame has a slight animation, too.
