Re: [SPRITES] Spriting Carnival!!
Thanks, I used Zrrion's Trench edit as a base and Doom Nukem's advanced tutorial assault rifle for the front and rear sight. Now if only we could get a more qualified person to do it...

YES, Captain J. We need some more soldier enemies besides Nazis.

Re: [SPRITES] Spriting Carnival!!
I think it would be best to avoid something like that. A new "zombie type" as was mentioned earlier might be more useful.
Depending on how Freedoom's secret levels are supposed to be, it could also be a mimic of a mediocre 90's "Doom clone" enemy.

That wouldn't look very secret in what's essentially a Doom clone.

Re: [SPRITES] Spriting Carnival!!
It pretty much literally is a Doom clone, but not in the "90's FPS boom" sense. Doom 2's secret levels poke fun at earlier Id titles; In the same spirit, Freedoom could make fun of previous free/cheap FPSes.torridGristle wrote:That wouldn't look very secret in what's essentially a Doom clone.
I'm mainly talking about the old hand-drawn Paint art, but without it necessarily looking terrible. A generic alien/robot/zombie/cowboy (or some mix of those ) would probably be pretty obvious.
... Or it could be sapped for an old cut Freedoom monster.

Re: [SPRITES] Spriting Carnival!!
those sound like good ideas neural , and yes we are going to avoid making it a real type of soldier, freedoom is part of some free software repositories including debian, and having a caricature of a real world military could make them drop freedoom
Re: [SPRITES] Spriting Carnival!!
It is perhaps worth mentioning that, at this point at least, FreeDoom's secret levels are not particularly "themed" as far as I can tell. They are certainly not populated exclusively by the special Nazi-based enemy or anything like that anyway. So there isn't a need to try and tailor an enemy to suit that kind of environment.
Personally, I feel that a good, general purpose addition to the FreeDoom bestiary would be a far more useful than a themed enemy that could really only be used in a themed secret level: meaning it was only used in two of the core levels and almost useless to a modder wanting to base a mod on FreeDoom.

Re: [SPRITES] Spriting Carnival!!
I think that the Nazi is a boring enemy, in fact, it could have been another zombie or an uber imp, something between imp---->demon or demon---->revenant. It's no good for any other level, and feels very "amateur" when used in normal maps. In Freedom it could be another floating enemy, or a fleshy-mechanical turret.
Re: [SPRITES] Spriting Carnival!!
That would involve changing the properties/coding of the actor: something that FreeDoom does not attempt to do.

polishing the eliminator design
i know the arms are weird and look backwards, but ill correct it in the next revision (ill prbably use those arms for the back view frames)

The all red look seems a bit underwhelming.
Re: [SPRITES] Spriting Carnival!!
I prefer the red. You made it look quite inconsistent.
