[cancelled] Beef Jerky: Crossover Boss Rush
[cancelled] Beef Jerky: Crossover Boss Rush
What the hell is this?!
Beef Jerky is a mod for GZDOOM that attempts to recreate various worlds from numerous video game series in the DOOM engine, pitting you against the protagonists from those series and allowing you to take their powers. Or in other words, it's a thing that lets you shoot Sonic The Hedgehog in the face and then steal his gloves.
The mod is arranged as a Mario 64-esq HUB with teleporters leading off to each map, there it's business as usual up until you run into whatever hotshot that's trying to protect their home turf from the local demonic invasion which, as usual, you've been sent to deal with (Good luck telling them that). If you manage to come out on top, you'll get access to whatever neat things they've got under their sleeves.
Hidden in the darkest, dankest corners of each map are the Posters, collecting them grants you access to caches of useful items. Find them all, and you'll earn yourself something nice, no doubt.

Re: [WIP] Beef Jerky
Played through this for a while, I really like the direction of this mod. I look forward to seeing how it develops.
Also, that baron was awesomely fun to fight, nice work there.

Reminds me of Super Sonic Doom, or Sonic Robo Blast 2.

You have no idea how gitty I am right now. Like, I'm a sucker for this man. It's actually a sad story. I cry evertim :'c
Also those bosses were fun as nuts to fight. WAD of the year 2014 put a label on it pronto. Seriously, this is one of my all time favorites now.
Edit: You might want to add more ammo in that sonic boss battle bit, though. :P

Re: [WIP] Beef Jerky: Crossover Boss Rush
I was initially off-put by the added support for Lasting Light, even more so after playing it the game with and without it added in. I can't see why someone would want to play Lasting Light with this. Nonetheless, I am flattered that you would try to add support for it, but no need to make it a priority in your work.
Beyond that, I think this is definitely a great start. I really like the small Sonic segment and the boss fight was great fun. I would personally try to expand the "series" area in the levels, as those are the most new and interesting things to see. And I would definitely love to see more series added in, like Mario, Mega Man, Contra, and the like; they'd be great fun. Keep up the good work on this; I'll happily keep my eyes on it.

Thanks very much for your feedback.
Lasting Light support was done because I thought it'd be funny, really. It didn't require too much extra effort anyways. Hence, "half-assed".
I was afraid the actual Sonic bits were too sparse. I probably should re-skin most of the base to either Galaxy Fortress or one of the numerous Scrap Brain clones throughout the series. Should also add a few more paths and Sonic-esq gimmicks throughout, maybe remake bits of classic maps, I dunno.
Still debating what exactly to add after Sonic, though. Maybe I should just host a poll?
