As unpleasant as modem screeching was to actually listen to, the thing that amuses me the most about it was that hearing that noise was a good thing, because it was better than the busy signals and the like that we'd get back when our service was AT&T WorldNet. (Or back when Dad used to call up the local Software Creations BBS mirror to check the shareware game releases.)

Heh, yes, you're right. And once you get to a certain point in the sequence, you know you are going to connect.

I remember those friday nights. Another hard week in school was over, the tv table was mounted with candy and drinks and me, my older brother and our dad took turns in browsing the web with our trusty 56k modem. We got perhaps 10-20 minutes each, which wasn't enough since the connection was so damn slow. But man, what wonders I discovered back then. Do anyone remember Shockwave?

I can.

I was never into the trend of crude flash animation or sprite comics.

AHEM.

Explain Your Avatar

Sorry to be a hypocrite, but someone's gotta do it if you can't move dialup nostalgia to another thread.

I'm using Tony Iommi because he has a badass look in that picture. If anyone wants me to become Angry Joe again, say so.

My avatar came from listening to some remix of e1m1 with friends, and one of them mentioning it sounded like if doom was set in a rave club, thus I made a pinky demon who looked like he was partying. I wanted to upload a version with glow wands and animated, but I lost it when my hard drive got fried, and never got around to remaking it.

Mine is myself (which in itself is a horrible photo).

I brought it up because i originally planned to put it in a frame and hang it onto a wall in my mod. It somehow didn't make it.
is that a pokemon

it looks kind of like a pokemon
Aha! I knew I'd seen that style before.
Yeah it's totally a Pokemon. Ivysaur, to be exact. Celadon City Gym Leader Erika as an anthropomorphic Ivysaur, to be even more exact.
Spoiler:
(mine is still Lemeza from La-Mulana eating curry)
