More importantly, any launcher that doesn't allow permanent association of PWADs with specific IWADs isn't worth the money in my book. Same for other mod specific configuration stuff.
A good launcher should have a list of mods and start them with proper setup when being clicked on.
I disagree, mismatching PWADs with IWADs would make for hilarious shenanigans, plus, there exists PWADs like Samsara that work with practically almost any IWAD.
It all depends what you want it for. With ZDoom (etc), I want the simplicity, flexibility and power of the CLI but without having to type long, ridiculous windows path names. ZDL gives me that. That "big picture mode" screenshot that was posted earlier is basically the polar opposite of what I would want. If ZDoom launchers were like that, I'd still be using the CLI to launch ZDoom. Something like that would be utterly useless to me.
All that being said, when I use Risen3D, I tend not to want that level of flexibility. I like the fact that mods can come preconfigured to use the correct IWAD and that, when I install them, all I have to do is select the mod that I want to play and launch the game. So a "big picture" mode there would be even nicer than what currently exists.
If a new launcher is made, it might be nice if it included some way for mods to provide a launcher configuration file that specified various requirements in a pre-configured way for users to basically "plug and play" the mod.
ZDL wasn't intended to be especially fancy, even the more advanced stuff for ZDL4 was intended as completely optional plugins. Personally I only really cared about a stable core and updatable DMFlags list (though the latter much less now, since those are all exported to CVars). Aside from a few minor bugs, I think the current state of qZDL is basically feature perfect.
Spoiler: Only partially on-topic rant
I basically don't like "library" style interfaces at all. A "recently used files" list or saved game menu is about the closest I go to not directly getting the file. Unfortunately the percentage of computer users who don't know what they're doing is on a constant rise, so "ease of use" features tend to become mandatory. This is why a lot of people still use "outdated" software.

I wonder if we can still convince Q to finish up the Issues list. (There are 4 things left, though one is a very minor feature request.) And unfortunately it seems I never remembered to post an issue for replacement maps in PWads getting sorted to the top of the map dropdown. Oh well.
Subjective. I prefer ZDL by a long way. Hell, I think I prefer the command line to that launcher. It just doesn't suit me at all.
What bothers me about most launchers - including ZDL - is that they do not have a library feature where you can configure your favorites with the proper command line options.
So anything that forces me to remember the settings for several hundreds of mods is failure by design, I'd rather use batch files from the command line - not because the command line is better but because all alternatives suck.
This one at least looks like it tries to to the job right, need to test a bit...

This is exactly what DoomLauncher does (or even more, feel free to post suggestions in the forum) - serving as a location for collectors and players who do not want to bother setting things up over and over again.
