Random Map Layout

Projects that have specifically been abandoned or considered "dead" get moved here, so people will quit bumping them. If your project has wound up here and it should not be, contact a moderator to have it moved back to the land of the living.

Random Map Layout

Post by FuzzballFox »

I've made a random layout- go mad! There are no height changes, no textures (apart from what is there, so no HOMS everywhere :P)~
Not everywhere is connected, so if you want to move sectors about, or join things, or split things apart feel free to, not to mention your own music, textures, even decorate if you wish!

It's Doom2 format for now so if you wanna make it in Boom, Zdoom, UDMF w/e- that's cool!
Have fun!

This is a neat idea. I'll have to give it a look later.

Very interesting! Maybe it'll help my poor mapping skills.

I am so using this. if your curious as to what I have planed for this then behold.

Spawn room (added more lights since then, this was mainly a test.
Spoiler:
and heres the room connecting to it
Spoiler:
Map : Light the way
The example I'm showing here is a map that only uses Dynamic lights as its light source. No static lights, will take advantage of Brightmaps for added value

It's basically a base map layout for people to modify and do whatever the hell they want with it.

Yup- a little thing for others~
Also a little experiment to see what different people do given the same resource to tweak as they wish!

This "experiment" is what gave me some motivation to even do what I am doing right now... oh and here's another screen shot with one of your curved hallways
(Using a doom 2 recolours resources on then ZDoom resources thread... Can't remember the author off the top of my head...
Spoiler:
Edit: Hmmm why does it look so... awkward on Imgur... the red in the editor isn't as strong as shown here, oh well.

Wouldn't dumping too many dynamic lights into such a small space reduce the performance a lot though? D:

I wouldn't know about performance drop really... I have an over powered pc to compensate for low end pcs... when I load it in zandronaids / GZDoom i get a flat 500 fps with no drop what so ever. but why anyone would need 500 frames is beyond me... :V

Now I wonder how feasible a resource of Creative Commons licensed map layouts would be. Is that really something you could license?
