[WIP] Weapons Mod for Brutal Doom (V3)

Hello,

This is my first post, and first project. After playing with Brutal Doom a bit i tried my hand at making some modifications to the animation and sprites and making new sounds to the weapons that shoots bullets i.e. the Shotgun, SSG, Chaingun and Rifle (plus BFG).

This is what I came up with so far (I have tried to make videos but Recordmydesktop got scared of Doomguy):

FEATURES/CHANGELOG:

V3:
+ New SSG sprite.
+ New chainsaw sounds.
+ New Pickup Sprites
* Fixed Minigun draw.
- Removed shotgun sprite (drawing a new one).

V2:
+ Edited Shotun, SSG and Minigun sounds.
+ New Plasma Rifle and BFG Sounds.
+ New Edited Pickup Sprites for Rifle, Shotgun, Minigun and Plasma gun.

V1:
+ New Minigun sprite made from the V17 and V18 miniguns, with new animations.
+ Modified shotgun sprites: now the pump travels more.
+ All new firing sounds for the Rifle, Shotgun, Super Shotgun and Minigun.
+ BFG sprites from Beautiful Doom.
+ Modified/edited pickup sprites for some weapons.

Now an idea: how about to integrate bullet mod changes into next brutal doom version? Say, 0.19?

I'm gonna be brutally honest about this (horrible pun, I know), but the shotgun sounds are not good at all. They sound VERY weak, especially the SSG sounds. That gun should sound 2x louder. The minigun sounds are kinda annoying too, with that loud screech-like noise it makes. I really liked the rifle the most, it has a nice kick sound to it. BFG was ok, except I didn't like the fact it sounds like it's powering down when it shoots the beam. I like the sprite for it though.

Overall decent, but could be better in my opinion.

Thanks. I tested it

- Rifle sounds more like machine pistol, than assault rifle
- Pump Shotgun have very weak sound
- DB Shotgun sounds much better
- Minigun sound is same, dont have much different
- Grenade Launcher sound more like Grenade Launcher. I like it
- Bfg sound is horrible.

Wouldn't the minigun sprite look odd if you had no bullets but it looked like you had a link of bullets on there?

Thanks for the criticisms. The first versions indeed had some inconsistent/annoying sounds. They should sound a lot be better (and louder) now. Btw, how are the sprites/animations? This is the first time I edit for Doom, and i'm just getting the hang on how things work ingame.

@ the others: thank you!

@ Mr. Chris: well, it would, but I very rarely exhaust the ammo for the minigun and when i get more, it comes up as it's already been reloaded. Some reload animations like those on Brutal Arsenal would've been nice, tough. 8-)

Not bad, I like the new pickup sprites, along with the shotgun sounds. Are you going to completely overhaul the sounds? I would love this mod forever if it brought back the individual pickup sounds for everything.

I also noticed my minigun would flicker into the new v18 sprite and then back to yours whenever I brought it out.

Yes, I plan to, eventually. The minigun draw is fixed and will be released on a future version. Meanwhile, I've been working on making some sprites.

Nice job on that marine mug for the HUD. I personally think that it would be a little bit cooler if the visor had some cracks because at the moment it gives the impression that he has no visor on the helmet and I think it might fit the concept of the screen cracks in Brutal Doom, just a thought though but good job so far.

Updated first post with an all new Super Shotgun Sprites and with some other changes. More to come later.

@ Springy. Thank you, those where nice sugestions and I'm working on them. It's kind hard to ad cracks to the helmet sprite without masking Doomguy expressions, tough.

For now you'll just have to:

Oh neat! Love the new supershotgun! And the new shotgun firing sounds. Kind of bugged me how in v18 the shotty was the loudest gun (which made firing a single barrel on the super shotgun louder than firing both...?)

Not crazy about the new rifle and plasma rifle firing sounds, but thanks to winrar I can turn them off as preferred.

Please keep up the good work!
