Re: [Texture/Flat] FWATER replacement
oh, and I tried to put this in heretic (via changing the filenames) and it worked but now the water does not. that is to say that the splashes do not appear when you fall or fire into it, anyone know why?
Re: [Texture/Flat] FWATER replacement
Does it have the same name?
Re: [Texture/Flat] FWATER replacement
If you have changed the name to the same as the Heretic water, that's only half of the task. The Heretic water only has 3 frames of animation so only those three have got terrain definitions to tell them to make splashes and floorclip. You'll need to add the extra frames to the terrain definitions too.
Re: [Texture/Flat] FWATER replacement
I wonder if TERRAIN is purely clientside, because if not then one could make a floor constantly change between different flats that would then give out different bonuses depending on which one you stepped on.
And then you could terminate the script that changed the flat in the first place or something.

Re: [Texture/Flat] FWATER replacement
Well, how is that for a new water surface? (it's not animated...yet. Just a sample for ya)
If I remove all black spots, it makes an excellent force-field as well.

I bearly understood this. not sure where the terrain definions are or should be! LOLEnjay wrote:If you have changed the name to the same as the Heretic water, that's only half of the task. Maybe you could type "terrain" into the wiki's searchbox and see if it yields anything then!

Re: [Texture/Flat] FWATER replacement
have got it sussed now , many thanks to enjay. he informed me that the files needed to be stored in a 'flats' folder not the 'textures' folder... thats why I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong. I wasn't doing anything wrong lol just a directory error...

Re: [Texture/Flat] FWATER replacement
loved this one so much I've modified it for use in heretic and heXen too!Enjay wrote:I found this in the Duke Nukem TC "Ages in Time" but I think that it may originally be from "Shadow Warrior". It's just a simple animated water flat set but I thought that it looked quite nice.
(enlarged 3X. Original is 64x64)
I feel these new textures do not change the mood of the maps, just awesome up the effect of the liquid!
for heXen I also recoloured doom's waterfall textures (would have used heretic's but they are only 3 frames!) for the wall water...
its not easy to see how good it looks just from the pics as it is a dynamic effect...

so heres a zip with two pk3's ready for gaming so you can see it for yourself...

Re: [Texture/Flat] FWATER replacement
How is that water made in the first place anyway? My guess is two additive sinus patterns scrolling across each other with a cleverly-designed gradient map with dark spots to act as the reflective.

Re: [Texture/Flat] FWATER replacement
You do realize, the game in question where this water flat's origin is, was developed from 1993 to 1997, a time when google didn't exist, and a time when water generators didn't exist, rightBloodyAcid wrote:Random water flat generator off somewhere from Google?

Re: [Texture/Flat] FWATER replacement
Aaaaah, my bad. I didn't read it properly.
Re: [Texture/Flat] FWATER replacement
Tiling is not a problem. That image was only a sample - if someone needs the whole set, I can make all 23 images so. And of course, seamless. This was only a surface test with heavy waves.
Here, I made my variation of the FWATER - Hot molten plasma!
Recolouring combined with heavy waves, and it's seamless from all 4 directions.
