Brutal Strife - BETA Released

Post by Sergeant_Mark_IV »

Brutal Strife is a revamp of Strife's gameplay. It adds unique gibs for every enemy, particle effects, smoother weapons, weapons can use their alternative ammo with alt fire instead having to switch to a sister weapon, almost everything in the scenario is destructible (trees, bushes, tanks with experiments) and many other new things like a feature that allows you to take some characters as hostages, or use arrows to climb walls.

So how is stealth improved? If you trigger the alarm, can you fight off the bad guys until the alarm stops and then resume the game as normal?

- Alarm is only triggered when you fire a weapon in sight of the alarm.
- If you kill a guard but there is another near, he will be alerted.
- If you start taunting the guard using your knife near him, he will be alerted.
- If you fire the crossbow but dont hit the guard, but the guard sees the arrow, he will be alerted.

The guards didn't appreciate it when I dragged Mourel out of his office with my knife to his throat and then murdered him in front of them.

I am really sorry but I don't like how it looks. So far all I'm seeing in the screenshots are random gore explosions, and I don't think a "postal 2 experience" has any business being in strife, much less in the official strife campaign. Personally I think you should go back to basics and reboot Armagedoom without 50000 tons of gore or decorate actors, but that's just me. The fans, of course, won't agree. The alarm change seems nice though, but personally I am not sure it would work too well in the original maps. After all, enemies like acolytes and stalkers aren't much of a threat, and that's usually what you get.

Yeah I kind of agree. The obscene level of violence worked well in Brutal Doom because Doom was built around killing dozens of enemies. Same with Hexen (moreso in fact). But Strife wasn't about that. Yes it was gory but it didn't splurge on it like Doom or Hexen did. I think you should tone down the gore, keep the effects in the same art style as Strife, but keep the gameplay additions intact.

Given as there's so few maps for strife and you have mapping talent I think you should just make new maps for strife instead. Again, just my opinion.

I hate being negative, but I must say, I don't like where this is going, gore and violence doesn't fit very well on Strife, special sfx would be, but the idea of "Brutal Strife" doesn't sound good, at least to me.
Keep the brutality to Doom and Hexen only (and maybe Heretic).

[This section redacted because without Hellser's rant it's just a tasteless sex joke with no context.]

I don't really see all that much of a point to this except for the brief "haha, human shield" moment I had with Governor Mourel. I'd rather see you continue work on Brutal Hexen because Hexen and gratuitous, savage violence are just made for each other.

Anybody is free to say that doesn't liked it (even before playing it just to try to be a troll) but when it gets personal, and start to talk to things that are not even related to the mod itself, YES.

I still haven't received an answer on this.
