Genesis Saga is created by Ryan Cordell in an attempt to create a versatile, enhancement mod for GZDooM. Similar to ICD-SE for EDGE. As years pass, Ryan evolved his mod to fit with his own modified GZDooM port; Tower of Babel. Allowing him to further enhance the monsters, effects and weapons to his liking. Genesis Saga was heavily beta tested by Hellser. Often adding in suggestions or code submission to Genesis Saga.
What is Project: Aurora?
Project: Aurora was created by Hellser in an attempt to create a weapon and effect driven mod for GZDooM, basing ideas from Genesis Saga. Hellser later on created special effects for Aurora, which remained in his own copy of the 'engine'. The mod didn't take off far, but was a test system for Hellser.
Why Genesis Saga Aurora?
GSA (Or GS) is created by both Ryan Cordell and Hellser. The mod picks up where Genesis Saga left off, the two taking turns on modifying weapons, effects, monsters and further enhancing the feel of the mod to fit similar to ICD-SE but add its own flair. Hellser being put into the department of effects and bullet weapon systems while providing tweaks to GS. Ryan Cordell works on the Plasma weapons, monsters and the ACS department for GSA.
Spoiler: Screenshots and Videos
Author's Note: NOTE: This mod is now compatible with ZDooM and GZDooM latest SVN. We do NOT support Zandronum / Skulltag! NOTE: Most weapons are receiving an overhaul. Excuse some of the weapons being glitchy. NOTE: We coded this with the SMART sprite clipping in mind. NOTE: Genesis Saga: Aurora should be compatible with multiplayer. If you run into any issues, please post it here.
Features:
HUDS -- There are a total of two huds, Ryan's "VISOR" HUD, and Hellser's "BOOM" HUD (subject to change) Various Rank Monsters -- Tired of the dancing around monsters? Now the monsters will dance around you. Various of monsters are capable of ripping you a new one. Effects -- With the AURORA system installed into GS, the mod features new torches, smoke effects and bullet systems to be taken granted for! Monsters Dodge -- On the Genesis Skill, monsters dodge! Are you prepared? Inventory Medkits / Armor -- Instead of picking up and immediately using medkits and armor, you can choose to use them later in the inventory (further info below) Characters -- Choose between the slow, unwieldy but powerful Grunt. The fragile speedster named Crash. Or even the well trained, all around Marine. Maps -- Optional, but part of our mod's storyline would be a series of maps that we're currently working on! More info later!
The Inventory System:
All of DooM's standard item pick ups (Medkits, Stimpacks, Green and Blue Armor, Radiation Suits for an example) can be used WHEN you need them. GSA uses the inventory heavily. However, this isn't for most people. Those who prefer the classic way of picking up items can use a patch provided by Hellser to revert back to the default system for Medkits, Stimpacks and Armor. Radiation suits and what not will still use the inventory system.
The Skill System:
GSA includes a set of new skills ranging from the beginning newbie to hard-balls expert.
Where's the trigger? [Newbie, Keys on automap]
I'm too young to die! [Beginner]
Hey, not too rough! [Normal]
Hurt me plenty. [Beginner Expert]

There's a big decrease in FPS for about a second after killing chaingunguys in water. It's probably due to the blood particles hitting the water and thus creating a large amount of splashes on the screen.

Oh great, just found out it's a branch of Gz-Doom and not just Z-Doom.
You see, GZ still gives me this [censored word] problem each time I go to play something, and I always forget the trick around it; it fails to show the menu screen and title pic, and instead shows a black screen with the loading window (by that I mean the same window that shows what Iwad you want to use, so on and so forth).
You have to do some specific clicking on a certain area of the window for it to display normally, like Z-Doom. But it's a total bitch to do, and seems to work only 1/50th of the time.

This should be fixed with the latest Aurora Blood System (one of the issues I my self was having, and immediately fixed).
If you're not using that, then it's Ryan's Department.

Go here and report the issue. If this also happens on ZDooM, then it's worth mentioning in the Bugs section on this forum.
Hellstorm Archon wrote:This feels and plays very nice. However, for some reason, I can't reload after binding the "reload" key to a key. Any suggestions?
There's two reload buttons. You're suppose to bind the default "Weapon Reload" at the very top of the control screen. Do not use the 'Reload' in the Genesis Saga controls at the bottom.
Edit: I'll remove the Reload from the KEYCONF so no one will get confused.
Uploaded new pictures. Also some good news; GSA should be multiplayer compatible with Tower of Babel or standard GZDooM (this may change however). If anyone runs into any problems, please post it here.
In due time, I'll make a software-friendly patch for GSA, we're just getting the key elements stuff out of the way before I'll work on it. (To ensure what we got already we're pretty fine with)
