[request] Firing rotations for a sprite

Post by Enjay »

Does anyone fancy doing some firing sprites for this guy...

Image

in a stance like this...

Image

:?:

I have tried a few times myself but each time has been a spectacular failure. I would "only" need the 8 pre-fire state images. I can add on a flash etc myself. I just can't get the stance right in the first place.

Thanks.

Two down, three more to go. I'm out of candy right now - will finish the other 3 tomorrow.

Hey, that's no problem for me :) I did this for months when I was workin' on Tristania3D. I did the same not just with 5 sprites, but with more than 100.
I have to be precise though to stay inside the palette, otherwise I'd use a LOT more variants of green. But hell, I got used to palettes. You'll just need to add the gunblasts :)

Wow! You're going to finish that, right? You're not just being a dirty tease, right?

I always finish what I've started :) I'll get some candy today - plus, a box o'cigarettes - and then, I'll finish the remaining three. They're partially completed alright, I just need to stick to the current palette, this makes it harder...but still not impossible. I did this a hundred times before :D

Excellent. I certainly couldn't have done anything near as good as that. Thank you very much.

Well, if I'm going to be picky, it's an asymmetric sprite so there really should be 8 angles. If you don't fancy doing them I'll happily use the 5 (or maybe have a go at making rotations 6, 7 and 8 myself using your ones as a base).

You can just mirror them, just like in Doom :) technically, Zombiemen, Shotgun guys and Heavy Chaingun Dudes' attack sprites are all mirrored. I'll do the same with my Tristania 2 monsters as well (except that there will be no monster infighting in Tristania 2, but there will be Alliance operatives).
Seriously, if someone smites down your project because the soldier puts his rifle on the other hand during the mirror process, then basically, he smites down Doom as well. And trust me, no one complained about this at Doom so far (HOM effect and texture mismatch is a LOT more noticeable fluke than mirrored attack sprites)

But the eye thing. THE EEEEYE THING! (I imagine Enjay's thinking the same thing.) Messy mirroring.

Firstly, that's assuming it'll be used in a Doom mod. Secondly, trying to paint it as some kind of affront to Doom (The god of FPSes! All Hail!) is just ridiculous. If you just don't feel like doing them, that's fine. You don't need wacky excuses for it (especially in a case where the full 8 rotations were requested). :|

Heh, yeah, I was. ;)

However, either way, Reactor has done me a much appreciated favour, saved me a lot of work and produced something far better than I could have done. I'm certainly not going to lynch him for helping me. With any luck I'll be able to use his sprites as a base to make my own 6, 7, 8 rotations.

Thanks again Reactor. :)

I suppose I can do'em as well (basically it's just a matter of arm swap), just as soon as I finish workin' on the kitchen machines (I'm working on fridge, microwave, oven and dishwasher textures). Since I use GZDoom, I can work with 24 bit PNGs, so it's not that hard, so I suppose it'll be done quite soon.

Um, Enjay...mind posting that 3 (or so) Doomguy posture? It's very helpful to take a look at them during pixelwork.
