FOG

Post by Doom »

I there a way I can add fog from a console command?, I'm done checking out wiki but saw any, at least not with the word FOG in it besides r_fogboundary, which has nothing to do with what I have in mind.

You are making no sense there mate, a proper fog can actually enhace maps, you might not be aware of it though.

Oh yes, thanx Nmn, that did it :)

I agree fully... I love fog! (I think you should already know that though (I'm referring to ROTGS2 :D)).

I always think that levels should have the same fog as the sky texture... adds more depth to outside areas IMO. Maybe not so good in internal areas, but you can easily do that in Zdoom :).

Yep fog kicks ass!, even though it can look far too deep in Zdoom depending on place, it would be nice if you could make it less intense without modifying the map.

That looks pritty sexy and moody :). It does wonders for the atmosphere :). What I'll be looking at doing in the future is adding the fog in the sky box and the outside areas, in real life you get a natural fade of the clouds covering the ground (so, if the clouds are white then the ground gets whitter the further it is). I'll probably just have a simple white sky texture and use nice oranges or reds to get a moodier atmosphere :).

Heck.. it's Heck of TNT :)

I loved Fog ever since I've seen Darkmere from Hexen for the first time. Heck (again?) I've even made a level long time ago where the sky was a white texture and allaround was a white fog-very realistic but the level was lost :(

EDIT: To get proper colors of Fog open Zdoom.wad with XWE and locate a lump X11RGB or something like that. You have a list of colors to use :D

Why not simply use RGB colors?

Because soemtimes You don't get the fog color You want.
For instance-You want brown fog. But what values make a brown color?
Check the color names, note their RGB values, go to Zdoom, use Testfade and Your desired color to see how it looks in the game, so You can avoid mistakes like using Cyan Coloured fog (which with Doom's pallette looks really shite) or You can get a nice brown color instead of a reddish or vile orange one.

Do you people know about an accurate value/name for a white fog?, the white color itself is too deep for most of the areas, wonder which one you would recommend, there's tons available. Btw, a nice thing would be having a FOG control at the display options menu; you scroll the bar back and foward in order to find the best looking color for the map :)

The depth of fog depends on the lighting of the sector You are in. The darker the lighting of Your sector the heavier is the fog. Get it?
