Mass Replacement of Textures/Flats

Post by ReX »

Do any of the editing utilities (e.g., DB2, DeepSea, Slade, SlumpEd) have a feature that allows texture/flat "swapping"? In other words, is it possible to replace every instance of a particular texture/flat in a map with another one?

Yeah, DeePsea too. It's pretty flexible. You can opt to change only lower, upper or mid textures or everything (or only floors or ceiling or both). If you are using a level that has incorrect texture names (or textures that are not actually present in your project) use the "convert" option instead of the replace.

All the options can be found in a popup menu that has F4 as a hotkey.

(Heh, I only just noticed a typo on the floor texture option.)

The options C through to I will be the ones that you are looking for (probably F and G from what you describe).

Very cool to know. Thanks to you both.

Nigel, my guess is that my maps will be too big for the shareware version of DeepSea, so I'll have to use DB2. If I run into any problems, perhaps I can send you the maps and you can do your wizardry with DeepSea.

Yeah, no worries. I'm sure DB2 will have you covered though.

I remember doing similar things "back in day" but with a dedicated command line tool of some sort. I forget what it was. I think it was actually intended to change Doom to Heretic or to Hexen etc. However, it did it by config files so you could type your own Doom to Doom config files if you wanted to mass change a whole bunch of textures from one to another. I have even done it via a HEX editor on occasion.

People still use ZETH (which can do replaces as well).

Yeah, there's exactly one person left using each of these editors, right? :P
