The Still New What Did You Last Do Thread
Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
Just finished a few revisions to a novel I've begun work on. Hoping it's not too long, or boring, for my comp course.

I can't believe this guy was banned partly because of me.Sodaholic wrote:I thought it was pretty obvious from the beginning that printz was just kidding in the MS thread.

Spent an hour looking for a Mountain Hall so I could by my dwarf some armor...found out that Mountain Halls are STILL not generated in DF2012:Adventure mode. It's ass backwards if you ask me.

The new PA Report has proved fairly interesting. The editorial with Valve's Gabe Newell covers a lot of fascinating ground in particular.
Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
I own a Samsung CLP-500 colour laser printer that I picked up cheap a number of years ago. It's been a good printer and has given me no problems other than one annoying fault that is common to the model. There is an infra-red detector that is supposed to identify when the waste toner bottle is full and then deactivate the printer until the bottle is emptied/replaced. Unfortunately, this system is unreliable. The transparent toner bottle can simply get dirty and this is enough to confuse the IR sensor, the sensor itself can get dirty and fail and sometimes the component just fails without any help from toner dust.
Some people recommend cutting off the piece of the toner bottle that protrudes in front of the IR unit (and sealing the resulting hole) so that the IR sensor never gets blocked by the rising level of toner in the bottle because the beam/sensor is just looking through air rather than through the bottle. However, this is not a long term solution because, sooner or later, the component will fail anyway.
That's the position I was in. I had tried the bottle trimming solution and got another year or two out of it but the "Waste toner bottle full" message kept coming up and I could not get it to reset (the bottle is hardly full at all BTW).
I was just about to give up when I found a guy on teh intarweb saying that you can open the printer up, identify the plug on the motherboard that the IR sensor is plugged in to and short it out making the printer believe that the sensor is always seeing the IR signal from the sender (ie, that there isn't toner in the way blocking it). I have to admit, I was a bit wary of cutting up a paper clip and just shoving it in to a socket on the printer motherboard but it seems to have done the trick. I left it on for some time and there seems to be no damage done to the printer at all. The message has gone and I am no longer blocked from using the printer. I know that this means that I will have to check the waste toner bottle manually but it fills up veeeeery slowly (read years) so it's not really a problem.
TL:DR With the help of a paperclip shoved in to the motherboard, my printer works - yay!

I had a dream that sodaholic was banned, and now I find out he is. Weird, maybe I was reading the forums in my sleep...

Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
Well my first day doing my placement went very smooth~
Was set doing things like some stacking, couple odd jobs- nothing with tills yet because it's a little too early but I got on well with the staff there and the day went very quickly!
..shame I came home to arguing though...now there is more home drama and it's kinda ruined my day...

Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
I've finally suspended my Facebook account. I realized that I see no point whatsoever in social networking. There are more humane methods to find out what others are doing, such as just asking them, than stalking their profiles, which is what I ended up doing, out of convenience. Finding out what others have been doing is far more exciting if I hear it from a human, than from an automated non-discriminating impersonal Internet service. Also, good riddance "stalking people I don't know personally because of their incredibly sexy photos". That has been plaguing me ever since I started social networking, very likely compromising my social skills.
If I really want to be seen by the world, it had better be something useful, such as blogs, a Sourceforge or YouTube account, where I actually do something useful, which may interest others, while minimizing everything personal and irrelevant about me.

ive been playing Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, 7 hours into the game and i still have not done anything related to the main quest aside from escaping the well of souls.
side quests are awesome. that and Shepard's battle armor as well as the Omni-Blade daggers.

I read this. I have had occasion to rant about Coldplay in the past so it's nice to see I'm not alone. This guy encapsulates my feelings about them very well.
