Guys, will you stop 'spamming' the thread with all of these "OMG" faces, please? It's just annoying.

Awesome work! I've been following this project since the past 3 beta/demo releases. I continue to be surprised after each release! Can I donate money to the project to help out?
Re: Demon Eclipse (WIP) - New Incomplete Beta Up P.1
Thank you for your offer, but money isn't what's keeping DE from being finished faster, rather it's time and energy. Since I've decided to keep this project as a one-man ordeal, I have to do everything. It gives me the freedom to do it anyway I want, but in return it eats up a lot of time and energy. Since I'm in school, time and energy is in short supply. However, this should change once I finish the semester, as it's my last real semester. After this I only have 2 classes left, and thus plenty of freetime (I hope).rammsdell wrote:Awesome work! I've been following this project since the past 3 beta/demo releases. Another issue is that I'm easily bored. I can't work on something for a long time continuously. I have to work on many projects at once to keep my mind from getting sick of doing the same-old thing over and over. That's just my personality, and probably not the best for finishing projects of any short. I don't think I've ever finished anything that I didn't have to, as right near the end, I would get bored, and I would start something else.

This is why the Harmony MIDI Pack, which is basically just fourteen 4-5 minute-long MIDIs, took me upwards of four months to complete (and a further five months for me to get off my lazy arse and refine for the /idgames release). I had basically all the free time in the world to do it - it was getting sufficient creative energy/inspiration/motivation to get it into a complete state that took the time. Of course, it certainly wasn't as big a project as DE, but what you described basically matched my own experience with that project.
I think what helps one along the process of developing any project which can be described as a massive undertaking by any stretch of the imagination, is keeping note of what you have left to do. This especially helps if you're going it alone, since you're the boss of how you manage your time and energy, and you manage it on your own terms. The more meticulously you manage, the easier and clearer things become.
More specifically, keep a list of each thing you have left to do - divide it up into, say, sections pertaining to the maps, sprites, coding, etc... and break it down into easily digestible chunks, even denoting a rough percentage of how complete each item on the list is (this method has worked especially well with my maps and MIDIs). This way, you get a feeling of what you've achieved so far, compared to what you have left to do - and it usually works out favorably. It can also help you gain a more vivid idea in your head of what you're going to work in the foreseeable future - allocate a few (manageable!) tasks to a date and sensible timeframe, and get them done. The sense of completion you get as a result is almost palpable.
I've done this exact thing for Jenesis and for Jukebox v9 (and a few other musical projects, too) - and I also need to do this for Square and Blocks 2 if there's any hope of them ever seeing release.

Re: Demon Eclipse (WIP) - New Incomplete Beta Up P.1
I have a list, which are mostly monsters and mapping. Most of my efforts now is in revamping Episode 2 (again, lol) and complete the new maps that are needed. The new E2M3 will be finished this weekend. The Aracknight will be done, hopefully, in a week. That will allow me to progress to start on the secret map for episode 2 and finish the new version of Towers of Suffering. Most of the older maps will need to re-detailing and some areas redesigned to make them up to date in appearance to the new maps. I'm also respriting the nightmare to look more like the original design in Hellstorm, but that is low priority. The Deathknight will be remade and degraded to a tough-monster (Cybruiser level) rather than a mid-boss. It's current;y very annoying to fight and probably too tedious for me to use them in any significant numbers. A Cybruiser-level monster will be more useful. I'll probably remove the shield and give it a longer 2-handed sword. This will need me to master Mudbox and Blender, though, as there is no way I can draw this by hand (again, low priority). The about concludes the work-list for episode 2.
Now Episode 3...lol -> 20+ monsters to sprite, several I need to revamp. I'm redesigning the Vulgar and the Nightshade, although the Nightshade resprite is pretty easy and I've already finished most of it. Might need to make some minor pixel edits to the Wicked to remove the dark outline and to change the face to something more evil. Currently editing the Hierophant to fix some issues with inconsistencies in the face. All of these are progressing very slowly due to school. Maybe after I graduate, and I find a job, I will have more time. :/

Yeah it's the same thing all over again over here as well. I keep getting people after me since I never seem to actually finish anything for them. And it's probably the reason I haven't finished a single single player map after getting started at it... a year ago?Eriance wrote:Another issue is that I'm easily bored. DE never ceases to impress me though. You sir are at least one the best doom spriters out there.

Re: Demon Eclipse (WIP) - New Incomplete Beta Up P.1
Slight update. Started updating the Hellion, as I grew bored of working on the Aracknight; always tend to run out of steam when I get to the pain state on any monster. I will continue the Aracknight tonight, and hopefully finish it by next weekend.

Fixed most of the shading and animation inconsistencies from the walking animation.
Working on the "Gauntlet" map right now, but map-block is not making that very efficient. I have some general ideas on what I want, not haven't any idea oh how to execute it well. Been drawing up some mock areas on paper to help brainstorm. Replaying through episode has revealed that several of other maps also needs to be either heavily modified, or completely redone to keep the detailing and architectural styles in addition to what I originally had in mind. The Dungeon, Hellkeep, Towers of Suffering, and Hellforce maps will all be completely remade, although based on their original layouts. This also allows me to make the maps more encompassing around the theme and story of episode 2, instead of just having maps filled with monsters. This of course means that the entire second episode will be remade, some maps for the second time. The will of my nitpicking will never leave me satisfied.

Re: Demon Eclipse (WIP) - Grenade Launcher Complete
Double post! D:
Grenade Launcher completed. This is a DE-replacement for the Skulltag weapon. Unlike ST however, it's intended to be CTF-oriented in defense. It will fire concussive/shock grenades that will not only damage the enemy, but slow down their movement for 3 seconds, allowing for better recovering of the flag.
You may use these sprites if you wish, as DE won't be ST compatible for a long while to come, given how far back the ST code is compared to the current one.
EDIT: Image removed. Look on p. 226

That pickup sprite is drool-worthy.
