So much D'AAAWWWWWW in this episode. Are we sure baby ponies aren't made entirely out of ungodly amounts of marshmallows, sugar and hugs?

Pinkie Pie wasn't ever my favorite pony but this episode definitely proved she's not at all afraid to get serious. (Up to a point, of course.)

So much D'AAAWWWWWW in this episode. Are we sure baby ponies aren't made entirely out of ungodly amounts of marshmallows, sugar and hugs?

All ponies are. It's just that when they are babby, it's all condensed into a smaller space.
(The same goes for magic and unicorn babby. It's why they're prone to powerful magic outbursts.)

Also, Mr. Cake calling his wife pet names like "Sugarplum" probably gets awkward when there's a very real possibility that they know ponies who are actually named that.

Yeah, you really don't get any more overt in pandering to your audience than that. I'm kind of disappointed in it to be honest; the show is usually more subtle and clever in its nods to the fanbase.

One thing I enjoyed in the episode was the cherry factory scene, likely inspired by a similar scene from I Love Lucy. I saw it coming. Unfortunately I also saw Applejack's confession coming halfway through as well, as I've predicted the reveals of many of the show's episodes so far (especially in season 2). I know it's a kid's show, but being one isn't an excuse to have such predictable plotlines.

And Applejack was surprisingly dishonest in this episode for being the Element of Honesty, don't you think?

It was a good episode. Predictable yes, but not as bad as the Mare Do Well episode. I loved Pinkie Pie in this one. And how come Spike was not at that huge party for AJ return? And as for Derpy's debut, I was more surprised that they referred her as "Derpy", than the fact that she finally talked. Oh and the ending was hilarious.
