[Autoload] Must-haves (now with full list!)

Post by Tormentor667 »

Auoload Must-haves?
Just out of curiosity, what kind of things do you have in your autoload folders? I mostly think about game enhancements that are must-haves in your opinion, like improvements of the original game or things like that. Share them, let's see what you guys really always use to play :)

List of things so far!
  • HUD Ammo Counter (by Jimmy)
Adds a overview counte for all the stock doom ammo types to the fullscreen hud
  • Bloodfix (by Cyanosis, Download)
Adds different blood colors for different monsters who need it (Baron, Caco, etc)
  • Cleanrender (by Dragonsbrethren)
Disables decals and translucency in Doom, corrects them in Heretic/Hexen
  • Smooth Weapon Animations (by Perkristan)
Addes "in-between" frames to the hud weapons making the animation smoother
  • High Quality SFX (by Perkristan)
Improves the quality of stock Doom sounds by replacing them with HQ-versions of the originals
  • Jukebox (by Jimmy)
Plays the music that you want to listen to
  • PalPlus (by Sigvatr)
A PLAYPAL variant with a higher contrast and desaturated colors
  • Mousewheel Scoping (by Professor Pants)
    Self explanatory,
    Spoiler: KEYCONF Code
  • Autosave Utility (by The Ultimate Doomer)
  • AmmoHud (Doom) | AmmoHud (Heretic) (by The Ultimate Doomer)
  • GreenKey Replacement (Doom) | Red Key Replacement (Heretic) (by The Ultimate Doomer)
  • Mugshot/Max Ammo HUD (by TheDarkArchon)
A modified ZDoom fullscreen HUD that shows the mugshot instead of the medikit for health and the ammo count shows both current and max ammo.
  • Medec's Crosshairs (by Medec)
    Additional hud crosshairs[/quote]
  • Alternate HUD (by TheDarkArchon)
  • Smooth Shawn HUD (by Jimmy)
  • Revenant Sprite fix (by Revenant100)
  • MIDI soundfont menu (by Gez)
  • Ketchup Gore (by SeargentMarkIV)
  • Doom Metal Soundtrack (by SeargentMarkIV)
...more hopefully to come

At the moment, just my own thing that adds an ammo counter to the fullscreen status bar.

EDIT: Oh, my mistake - I also have Shane Strife's hqmusicd2.pk3.

I think it might be worth having a stickied thread dedicated to this sort of thing, though - that everyone can post their stuff to. :)

The only thing I have as an autoload is for Plutonia, which contains a replacement for the first chapter's sky.

I don't have much: a few skins I think and perhaps something else. However, ZDL is usually set to the -noautoload parameter for me because I probably do more testing of stuff than anything else and -noautoload helps me keep things clean so that I know any particular problems are nothing to do with something autoloading that I may have forgotten about.

I use Cyanosis' bloodfix mod, I don't know why but I find it very important to have correct blood color.

I usually use a slightly modified version of the Skulltag expansion pack, but I can't seem to find a link for it anymore. Anyone still have version 1.2? If not I think I can revert it back to normal and post a download link for it.

I find this very interesting, lots of useful stuff, looking forward to even more of it.

BTW, in my .ini I have the following area:

Code: Select all

# Wad files to automatically load depending on the game and IWAD you are
# playing. You may have have files that are loaded for all similar IWADs
# (the game) and files that are only loaded for particular IWADs. For example,
# any files listed under Doom.Autoload will be loaded for any version of Doom,
# but files listed under Doom2.Autoload will only load when you are
# playing Doom 2.

[Doom.Autoload]

[Doom1.Autoload]
Is there a way to automatically load each file from a certain directory? Something like...

Code: Select all

Path=$PROGDIR/autoload/*.*
?

Perkristan's High Quality Doom SFX:

Is it worth adding Jukebox to the list? I don't autoload it myself but I think it's pretty much usable as an autoloadable anyway. (And the WIP version 9 that Worst and I are working on should be even more so.)

I promise I'll stop spamming the thread with my own stuff now. :P

Heh. :P

I'm also going to suggest Sigvatr's PalPlus palette that makes Doom look a lot moodier.

Can't say I'm a fan of that palette. On my monitor the zombies have a very orangey look to them, the dark browns and greens tend towards grey too much and the increased contrast that is supposed to be a positive feature makes some things look almost MSPainty IMO.
