You should become a volunteer librarian - then you'd have the power to "SHHHH!" everybody, point angrily at the "Quiet, Please!" signs, etc.Mikk- wrote:Some people really do NOT understand the definition of Library. A bunch of scummy year nines start shouting, screaming, running around and being generally fucking annoying. It's almost impossible to study or even quietly read a book or complete some work here.

What you need is Conan the Librarian.

Just for the record, when Firefox updated to version 7 (now 7.01) this issue went away.A few pages ago Enjay wrote:My problem witrh the current Ff (6.0.1) is different.
If I have some websites open, I think particularly ones that allow text entry - like this very forum) and I try to run a second instance of Ff, it will appear but will be totally blank (no menus available, nothing). If I then click on the X button to close it, it does indeed close but something is left in memory. If I open the task manager and look at the processes tab, there is an instance of Ff running that shouldn't be.
If I close that instance (or restart my machine) the next time Ff starts, it tries to reopen the invisible instances of Ff and either give me an error message saying that they couldn't be restored or it opens them and immediately seems to minimise them but when I try to restore them, there is nothing to restore because the window is invisible.
Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
Just got back from my trip to New York City to interview for Google a little while ago. It was a bit of a trip (thank goodness my sister goes into the city a lot; she put together a flawless master plan to slip me in and out of the city with minimal fuss in no time), but well worth it. Google's NYC office is their next biggest location after their California one, and it's quite a place. They bought the building, and every time one of the tenets in the building doesn't renew their lease Google scoops up the floor, has it renovated, and populates it. Their workspace itself is a bit of a maze and it's clear they had a lot of fun designing it. The fifth floor is "New York" themed with painted walls designed to look like buildings and the meeting rooms are designed to look like apartments. There's also a manhole on the fifth floor if you need to get to the fourth floor and don't feel like taking the stairs or elevator. Also, the library has bookshelves which move to reveal hidden rooms. I was expecting things at the place to be a little different than what I'm used to, but it was a lot different than anything I was expecting. (I also liked that one of the hallways had a big whiteboard across it where someone had decided to draw a picture of Courage the Cowardly Dog screaming. WIN.)
The interview itself was pretty long, lasting from 9:45 AM to 3:00 PM and I probably can't technically talk much about it since they did make me sign an NDA, but it was sufficiently different than any other interview I've been to before in terms of what they asked and such. A lot of fun though, more fun than sitting in a suit across from a group of people in awkward bursts of silence half the time. I feel like the whole process went well and am hoping for good news from them.
Since the interview did end at 3:00 and getting out of the city without traffic pains hinged on leaving at night, I also took some time to stroll the city. Stopped by St. Patrick's Cathedral, that big post office with the huge steps out front, Times Square, etc. Visited a few shops along the way. It's a shame I went in on the Monday because the Barnes & Noble I stopped by is apparently going to have a signing with William Shatner this Thursday. In the end a nice little visit, but I'm still not much of a city person. I definitely still cringed every time I stopped at a red crosswalk and the crowd around me just kept going because apparently being a pedestrian in the city long enough makes you immune to traffic.

Google certainly seem to have an interesting working environment!
I sat it on a managers' briefing at Bromley Council today, which was certainly an interesting and informative experience. The general vibe here is that things aren't looking good financially either now or in the next couple of years. Therefore, the overall outlook is grim, much like the weather has suddenly become in the last two days.
I've also got an interview at Gamestation on Saturday, which is about seasonal work. Seems to me that if I'm successful there I'll have to choose between Paperbox and Gamestation for my Christmas employ... well, if I can't do both anyway!

The gameplay from the trailers actually reminded me of Star Tropics. That game was more than Nintendo Hard.
Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
Well, RAGE came in the mail. Going to try it out now.
EDIT: OH GOD THIS IS TAKING FOREVER TO INSTALL D:
EDIT 2: Okay, one whole friggin' hour later, it's almost done installing.

i found this in Rage just now.

Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
Hit 311 global rank on Frozen Synapse. ...Wow.
Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
Eh, RAGE isn't that bad so far. Seems pretty interesting and fun. It still manages to have tense combat, despite some more modern elements (but seems to work it into more retro-like gameplay)
I'd recommend playing it.
