Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
Been playing around with the minecraft 1.8 "pre-release". I'm very impressed with the new terrain generator so far.

And I'm just trying to take it one step at a time. Since March I've held a job with McDonald's at least, and I've got my eyes on one of the banks. Think I can put in as a teller thanks to my pretty extended experience with handling money and my reliability with it.Ghastly_dragon wrote:What really matters is his drive to succeed over them.
ED: No, before you ask, I'm not exactly fans of most of the crew here, either. They're even more immature than the last place I worked. But hey, you were right about one thing, Kinsie, I got to suck it up because everyone else has to deal with the same shit...

That's good, that's good. I didn't have any new updates so I pretty much immediately assumed the worst since this is the time of year when internet people succumb to malaise. Hope things pick up.

Oh, I'm still loathsome. Don't expect that to change.
Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
Played through a 4 map L4D2 campaign based on some of the maps from the N64 classic Goldeneye with my friends and it was a real treat. Played very well. The maps were Facility (1), Archives and Train Depot (2), Control Center and Water Caverns (3), and Cradle (4) taking up the finale. The Cradle finale took several tries to figure out a strong workable defense and had some great moments including running across one of the long thin metal platforms only to find we're surrounded by tanks on both sides, and waiting at the very bottom for the rescue copter (like in Goldeneye) only to be told that the copter has spawned on top so we die fighting our way up.

Made a playlist in Winamp consisting of several ifferent sets of songs to be used in different PWADS.
Why I did not think of doing this before is beyond me, especially considering how simply I can change the songs in there should I feel like it.

Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
Bank robbery? Seriously? Pffft.
No, but I've been trying to sort out my plans for the near future. Remember that I said, "One step at a time", well, my next step will certainly be looking for a car while I'm acquiring a license. I was talked out of buying a used car with a credit card and going with a loan through my bank. If I get that, then I can actually go apply for the teller job at my bank, too.
Who knows? Maybe ol' PDF here may in a few years be an accountant of all things.
If... you know, things work out.

Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
My beloved CRT monitor has been acting messed up as of late. When I start it up, it keeps flashing from normal to overly bright, gets faster and faster, and then suddenly becomes extremely dark. Degaussing a million times seems to fix it somewhat. But then it's far too bright (black appears as gray), and it takes about 30-45 minutes to eventually go back to normal brightness.
Any idea how I could fix this? I don't know if there's any repair shops that want to bother with CRTs anymore...

Indeed, I play many games without their intenral music any more. If I don't especially care about sound clues from the game, I'll throw on something from my collection.Doomhuntress wrote:Made a playlist in Winamp consisting of several ifferent sets of songs to be used in different PWADS.

Better probably to get a new (or slightly used) one. I had an old CRT that was pretty expensive back in its day (my folks actually bought it) and lasted many many years. It finally went completely senile and apparently decided it was a widescreen in a 4:3 body.Sodaholic wrote:Any idea how I could fix this?

Been playing the shit out of Space Marine and Resistance3 last 2 days, good games. Space Marine is a bit shallow and cheesy, but the combat feels great, really brutal. Also was surprised to see health packs and the ability to carry all the guns at once in Resistance3, no more regen health and 2 weapon limit in a modern shooter which is strange. (well, it's in the multiplayer but it actually good there IMO).

So, pretty much as advertised.CaptainToenail wrote:Space Marine is a bit shallow and cheesy, but the combat feels great, really brutal.
Finally! Developers might be learning! Also was surprised to see health packs and the ability to carry all the guns at once in Resistance3, no more regen health and 2 weapon limit in a modern shooter which is strange.
Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
So it turns out that due to (allegedly) unintentionally shitty programming, the PC version of Dead Island is a complete dead loss. First they release a broke-ass beta on Steam, then the update they release breaks all previous savegames and DLC, and to top it all off, it is the first Steam game I have come across which won't work in Offline mode. NOWHERE is this stated.
Deep Silver's response? "Err, it's cuz of the Steam Cloud. It won't work without it, duuhhh ..."
Anyone familiar with Steam will know that the above statement is total and utter bollocks. How many other game which utilize the Steam Cloud run offline? Yeah, fucking ALL OF THEM.
Congratulations, Deep Silver/Techland, you've just hoodwinked your first (and indeed LAST) £35 out of this sucker.

Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
It's such a sad thing indeed that Dead Island was TOTALLY rushed. It had the potential to be a really good game, but its lack of polish and quality control totally ruined the game.
Apparently an even worse bug plagues the console versions of the game - saves don't always work. I'm reading literally hundreds of forum posts about players who've lost tens of hours worth of gameplay (they play for many hours, then quit the game, thinking it saved but much to their horror, when they load back, their progress is reverted to a really early point in the game).
(Speaking of which... WTF is up with developers who don't put a "save anywhere" feature in FPS games!?!??! Fuck all this checkpoint bullshit man)
I will still play it, if only for my love of zombie games (and also to thoroughly study its flaws, so that I know what to not mess up in my very own open-ended zombie mod which I have been working on since 2008 :P) and just to complete the story. I'll probably just cheat my way through the singleplayer mode with a trainer or something if I get bored.
Also, it's a horrible-looking 2011 game. See my post in the previous page.

Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
It's a rare one that actually bothers! Worse when said games are ported to PC and still use the same checkpoint system. Come on, I think the hardware is more than capable of save times...Nash wrote:(Speaking of which... WTF is up with developers who don't put a "save anywhere" feature in FPS games!?!??! Obviously, worst when you can't save at all.
They could at least have obviously maked checkpoints that can be used multiple times. (Cube 2 does this.)
