I think the ground is a taaad too bright compared to the structures, but otherwise, this thing is wonderful.

The ground looks nowhere near complete though, so I think this will probably be fixed quickly.

Just a random suggestion: You might want to try nearest-color matching when downsampling the image. Dithering rarely looks good for scaled-up graphics like these.

Otherwise, looking great. :)

Sorry about the lack of updates; there are three reasons why map 2 hasn't been finished.
1. I've been busting my ass on trying to get a new job, and that's taken away part of my time.
2. There are some really weird editing issues I'm having at the moment involving one of the animations; it stems from the fact I'm using a lot of layers for different effects throughout the map. So, there will only be two animations on map 2 since as soon as I get it done I'm moving on because I still have to complete map 3 and 4.
3. I'll admit, I discovered Megaman 8-Bit Deathmatch. And it's too much fun, and has become my main replacement game. I wish more people played it. Honestly, it's great. It's kind of addicting, and that's ate up the rest of my time.

4 maps? I thought there was only going to be three maps. Ya know, Episodes 1 and 2 would be Map 1, the city levels (episode 2) would be Map 2, and the Hell levels (E.3) would be the final Map, is the City or Hell areas getting split in two?

So here's the latest and hopefully final version of map 2, but like I said... I still have to finish one animation before it's complete complete, but at least the initial stuff is done.

It really seems as if the buildings could use some shadowing...

Yeah at the moment the buildings literally just look like they're superimposed on top of a background that doesn't really fit. The buildings themselves are good, but the bg needs work.

I think the background could use more grass in the empty parts. Doom II is still quite green; there's a lot of grass textures and see also the Doom 1 E3 and E4 end screens. It would also help with the earth cracks being blatantly out of scale.

(Of course this mock-up becomes ugly if palettized.)

Shadows, once they're added in, will help too.
