Has anyone ever attempted to build Fallingwater/Kaufman Residence in the Doom engine? I know there's a map for Counterstrike Source and Halflife 2:DM that is based on this building, but to see one in Doom, that would be badass.

That sounds very difficult, but it could be achievable by some extent. I mean, that'd require lots of slopes & 3D floors.

I want to make an abstract or mech-themed total monster and weapon replacer that has perfectly decent FPS gameplay but no gore at all.

I thought of the same idea a while back, it's a good way to use realistic guns without blood.


EDIT - I just had an idea for a Doom mod:

Your character gets sent to hell wrongly, he tries to fight his way out with any means possible. You start out in a really dangerous area, but there's a few calmer levels with canyons and rock formations. As you get farther away from where you started, the surroundings get less gory and more like a desolate wasteland.

Near the end, you exit through a portal to a UAC base.

For episode 2, you're fighting your way out of the base to find a shuttle to get back home. The entire planet was evacuated because the demons took over.

I was actually going to try tackling making the weapons at the very least, but that would require figuring out how to get that crap from a Genesis Rom. I can't do that on account of I'd probably toss my computer out of the window in anger on my first attempt.

The idea I had was that you can either A) Take alternate paths in a level that leads to 2 different levels (one normal exit, the other secret) and each exit would lead to a different chain of levels. Or B) Certain actions or paths taken in an episode change what levels are present in the second episode. For example: If I take the normal exit in the final level of the first episode, it would take me to the normal second episode (Knee-Deep in the Dead to Shores of Hell). While say, taking the secret exit instead leads to a completely different second episode (Knee-Deep to Alt. Second Episode).

I'm merely using the two exit example as a way of clarifying my point. Other methods can probably result in changing the string of levels or episodes.

Hy all, I'm Katamori and I have a very complex idea for a custom ZDoom project (I didn't want to make a new thread yet)

Previously I wanted to make a WAD with this title, but it was an average work of a beginner mapper rather than a custom WAD. But present day I think, it's a good idea to make a complex and good WAD from this.

The story so far
I imagine a totally different stories than you usually think about UAC.

In the 22th century, Union Aerospace Corpotion became a gigantic multinational corporation, similar to the Doom 3 story. But in this story, the UAC's significance is more important on Earth than in the outer space.

The reason is the next: UAC had a lot of dirrefencies with the governments of Earth (especially with the USA) which caused a global war on Earth. It's not a total war, they don't want to destroy the enemy - the final aim is the domination of the planet!

Meanwhile, UAC deploys strange life forms in the war: monsters with claws which fires flaming balls, cyborg superhumans, gigantic robots, et cetera. Nobody knows how UAC got these military units. This is very mysterious.

In this world, the player itself is a private marine. His army was defeated in the middle part of the U.S.A. and he's the only survivor. UAC abducted him to interrogate. And he awakes in a dark prison cell...

My future plans
I imagine about a ZDoom WAD to this story, where the story is very important, it decides the incoming events, the places, the enemies, etc.
I know it means a lot of ACS work, and using of special tools (e.g. cinematic scenes like in It Only Gets Worse - sorry I don't know any better example) but IMO it's possible with your help. :)

Also, there's a lot of good source at realm667.com, so maybe it won't be problem for me.

Place ideas

MAP01-MAP06: escape from the prison and navigate 5 sectors in a gigantic UAC military base (civilian sector, industrial areas, etc.), on the last level the soldier fights his way through the canyon.

MAP07-MAP11: on a secret metro line, the soldier sneaks to a mall, and later he fights through the big city called Electropolis to the laboratory and he destroys a fusion power plant.

MAP12-MAP20: after the explosion,the soldier awakes in the middle of a wasteland (or desert) and now he fights through natural areas (desert, convoy, abandoned building, mountain, etc.) and finally he find a super secret laboratory, which opens a gate to another world (NOT HELL!)

MAP21-MAP30: the evil in the other side became too strong, and the soldier must stop the new invasion of Earth. A gigantic space are with floating islands and buildings (like Xen in the first Half-Life game)


Yes I know, these ideas are very unambiguous, I like planning a lot :) also, I want to make this project, but I don't have enough knowledge about the features of ZDoom.
What do you think about this idea?

Alan Wake / Flashlight mod:
Beam your flashlight at the enemy until its no longer protected by the darkness (or in Doom's case, Hell) then start killing it with actual firepower.

Katamori, it may be a good idea to shorten your sight. I doubt you'll actually get 30 full maps out of that. Considering what you can do with ZDoom, though, that's not really a problem. Yay, MAPINFO.

Hehe, the funniest thing is that I think about more than 30 maps. I have exact conception for each slots. However, I'll need mapper(s), artist(s) and person (people) who helps me the coding. Yesterday I read ZDoom Wiki about DECORATE but it look terribly hard and impossible. :(

DECORATE you can learn, it's not overly difficult depending on what your doing, but once you have it down, it's easy to construct the basics of a wad/pk3.

ACS on the other hand...oh boy. That is caking hard to learn. It's an advance programming language that allows special events and far more stuff to happen within ZDoom. It would benefit your kind of wad, but you would have to take considerable time just to learn to code with it.

I'm not trying to discourage you, I encourage you try to learn it. But for the sake of your wad, try start with something simple, just work on levels and make a simple map pack as a start. Once you begin to expand on your knowledge of DECORATE, ACS, etc. you can add on to it and improve it in anyway you want. The project is never truly finished until not only your vision is realized, but you have everything you want to have for the wad itself.

It sounds like a great concept for a Doom wad, but stick with the basics first, that way you have a foundation for your overall vision.
